Heres an assortment of “not so fun “, days at the track…mostly from the early ‘experimental’ days of bad ideas…homebuilt technology and just plain bad luck…driving or equipment failure. Pulled from archived shots and our Giant ODF Premium Members Galleries .

Haven’t found the following ‘crash’ shots…Drake ‘s Falcon up the bank …Bobby LaRegina’s Sedan Whinemaker roll-over …Or Shott’s twin engine over the bank.

I was there at Dover to see two of those crashes;the ‘Challenger’ and Bobby Laregina’s ‘Whinemaker’ and to say the least, a very ‘scary’ moment to experience, watching it take place!

That shut down area, we all know, had serious “issues”… did’nt it. I’d bet that 9 out of 10 crashes at Dover were there and not on the racing end of the track.

                                Me too.
Racing Al Oakes “Growler” Anglia, I blew a clutch in my ’38 Chev. Cut the brake line, etc. Went airborne a little, and right into the swamp on a fly. Blew my WEDGE scatter sheild, along with the back of my engine block off. 😮 😯
A piece of flywheel hit the track, then a spectator. He took all of us to court. 🙁
Chet and Joe had to pay for that one. IIRC, they had NO insurance that year.
