RIP Bob. I never met him personally but saw his cars alot and they where always a class act.
Pat
Wow,another ‘gasser’ legend lost, very sad! Like Pat D.I never personally met him, however, watched him run at ‘Island’ with his 40 Willys coupe,in ’65’,then he switched to a 33 Willys coupe back in the late ’60’s (Hemi powered) when I saw him running down ‘E’ town in Jersey. He won the N.H.R.A Nationals in his BB/GS class in ’69’,also setting the record at 9.76 et,144.92 mph.The 33 was sold to Paul Day (The ‘Agitator’) in 1970,running a small block ‘blown’ Chevy.Paul sold it after switching to a Vega funny car.The 33 wound up in Canada, and made into a ‘steet’ rod.A few years ago,Scott Hasko from Jersey, bought it,and did a complete restoration on it,making it I believe, into a ‘street’rod also.Scott is a member of the East Coast Gassers, and the 33 can be seen what it looks like today, going to there site.Scott also has a beautiful 39 black Willys steel coupe, with a steel 41 front end;called the ‘Rellic’ on the doors, that he races with with the E.C.G club.Getting back to Bob Chipper may he R.I.P,as stated a good builder of race cars, and a darned good driver too!
Thanks V Bob for sharing your photo of Bob Chipper’s 33 Willys BB/GS.I forgot to mention also, after Paul Day purchased the car from Bob,he chopped the top a few inches.Today, all restored by Scott Hasko, the body is painted all red.
I remember seeing his BB/FC’s run at Etown back in the mid to late 70’s. Always a first class effort. He also had a green BB/FC after the red Vega.
