Found an Inflation Calculator that Shows What the Winner would get Today:
If in 1973
You bought an item for $ 475. “Winner”
then in 2012
that same item would cost: $2451.
Annual rate of inflation change: over 415%
So if your Pit Pass costed $5.back then … Today it would be almost $26.
So if ya think 475. was cheap payout from Track…It wasn’t!
Spectators 2. in ’73 admission calculates to $10. now
Having fun with this…Opening Day At Dover 1961 ,it was $1. Admission…Today $7.66 – price of a Movie
oh….and gas ‘should’ be 1.96 gal.
My Dad and I ran that event with the ’67 hemi GTX SS/D car we were running at the time.
I remember it well, or at least one part of it.
There was a Corvette M/P car there called “The Honker” (not connected to Bud Faubel in any way). The ‘vette had just been on the cover of Cars magazine, and he lined up with me during time trials/qualifiying. It had a big tunnel ram on it, reall fancy paint, etc.
What I remember is thinking how bad that ‘vette was going to be.
When the light went green, I remember seeing his front wheels up in the air…then I pulled second gear and that’s the last time I saw him.
Loved that hemi mid range charge…
Storm…That “Honker” was non other than Ralph Feola…Heres the Topic WITH the Cars Magazine Story on it:
