1969 NHRA Stock Classes
As you can see, the NHRA stated what would take place in 2-years.
Effective January 1, 1971
Only 1957 and later models would be able to campaign in Stock Class starting
in 1971.
It was a way for the NHRA to slowly phase out the 1955 and 1956 Chevy’s from
Stock Class and to push them into Gassers.
In 1969, with the new 7.50 to 7.99 Wt/HP starting off the Stock Classes,
it now permitted the Mopar 426 Street Hemi’s and new ‘COPO’ 427 Camaro’s
to run in A/Stock.
Also, the ‘Aluminum-Nose’ 1963 Max-Wedge Mopars could also campaign in
A/S or A/SA {ie; Northeast Raider}.
