Dino Back around 1986 I bought a 1956 chevy out of the Capital District at a small car dealership. No one new of any of the history of the car but after doing some restoration work I found that it would have been raced and not just as a daily driver. The car was black when I bought it, no rear seat and does have a vin that comes back to a business mans coupe with out a seat yet it does have the wrong chrome on the car for that model. The car over all was in super shape again indicating that it has some race history. It had a stock rear with a non posi when I got it but it had a super nice set of home made ladder bars included with the leaf springs and there is evidence that the rear has been apart many times. The front bumper horns were modified to except a tow bar but some one had cut them down when I got it. All the hood supports under the hood were removed and the back of the grill was removed with the hood held down with just hood pins. All the front bumper supports were removed also. Radiator support was cut and set up to be easily removed as well as a trailer plug added to the radiator support to allow you to use the parking lights and turn lights when towing. The interior was complete but the under the door panels both front and back the doors have been cut signifigantly, but they still have roll up[ windows in the front. Under the dash chrome the steel dash was completely cut out with the radio just attached to the dash chrome. Under the carpets in all the floor cross members someone drilled a series of 1/2 inch holes in each member also in an attempt to lighten the car. When I was doing some body work I found what I believe to be evidence of either a yellow or gold pinstripe around 3/8 wide on the rear quarters. The rear wheel wells were never cut and there was a vintage AC delco tach and some early speed parts on the engine but the engine was a stock short block from a 1979 smog motor. It did have a homemade deep oil pan and vintage old valve covers but the motor was junk. The car also had a good muncie 4 speed and had a black and metal flake gold steering wheel.
Dino I was just wondering if you or anybody else you might know could give me any history on this car or would possibly know if it was raced at Dover or any other local strips? One thing they did tell me is that it may of had some connection to a Carpet Store at one time but that was all they new of the car. Thanks in advance!
