        HEY

Anyone watch the ,I use the term with loosely, thedrag racing coverage of the Thunder Valley race on Sunday??
What the hell was the Newly Wed Game doing on my HDTV ??
When there was suppose to be drag racing coverage!!
Is this a sign of worse things to come!!!
You mean they could’nt find some footage of races from years gone by ,Connies been at it 50years ,give the guy some camera time !!!
Show them shooting some freakin tshirts into the stands or something !!
To top it off then theres footage of the train going by the welcome to Bristol,Tenn. road sign !!
Let me at those cameras,I’ll get some footage that racers wana watch !!Wher’s all the “CHEESE CAKE” shots ??

            Video Bob,

I saw that also. Waiting for Bob Eubanks to jump out and ask “When was the last time you made whoopee at the track? Absolutely pitiful 😯
How many more times do we have to watch John Force ride up and down through the pits and in front of the spectators with that scooter?
You know what would be fun, watching someone bean his head with a bent connecting rod
while he’s riding in front of the grandstands. Now that would warrant a nice Dover Trophy
and class winner sticker (the oval-shaped ones with the checkered flags). not the
69′ rectangular ones ❗ (Sorry Dino).

If anyone was watching ESPN Sunday, as Video Bob stated.
NHRA and ESPN went to a new low in Drag Racing Broadcasting.
Actually did a rendition of “The Newlywed Game”.
Absolutely pathetic, and waste of time. After a minute of watching, I changed the channel, probably like the rest of America.
I guess the brains their could not come up with anything else worth value.
How about a 10.50 second run of a Super Stocker or 11.50 run of a Stocker, at least once in their broadcast.
Ever heard of the term “Jumped the Shark”. Well they did.
How about this, lets focus the camera on John Force speeding around on his scooter
through the pits and in front of the grandstands, “EVERY FREAKIN SUNDAY”.
Please, how about one 60’s Super Stocker. JUST ONCE ❗
If they re-created “The Newlywed Game”, I wonder if NHRA had to send a residual
check to Chuck Barris (Game show creator).
You know next week, they could do a rendition of “The Dating Game” (from the mid-late
60’s). Bring back the old host Jim Lange, and for old times sake bring back 3 popular
Dover Racers as contestants. Since it was a mid 60’s show, the date that the contestants
would be vieing for could be say, Nancy Sinatra (1967 version) from the movie
“Speedway” with Elvis Presley. Now that would be a great telecast. If the winner did not take Ms. Nancy, he could choose the 1967 Hemi Charger that Elvis drove in the movie.
Today’s value, let’s say $175,000. Thats for the car not Nancy.

Check Jeff Burks usually “biting” NHRA commentary at http://www.dragracingonline.com and I’ll bet Randy Fish could Possibly explain the NHRA OR ESPN mentality, direct from the land of fruits and nuts.

NHRA is a pathetic far cry from what it used to be…..It’s all about getting the attention of the “general” population. Check the stands, most fans have no clue except what is blasted on TV and the internet. Honestly, that 1000′ dragstrip is a joke and I cannot accept it. I also feel that way about running 1/8 mile on a 1/4 mile track They say it’s for safety. Drag racing has it’s dangers…we all deal with it. I agree IHRA is the way to go.They treat the racers and fans much better. I am fortunate enough to be involved with both the old and new type of drag racing. My son crews on a twin turbo drag radial car that tours nationally. My point is both types of racers, old school and new wave agree that NHRA sucks. Trust me guys..there are many organizations that are growing and attracting many of us. If you check on the ‘net many of the other car forums have threads directly related to how bad NHRA treats its “bill paying” racers. Years ago many a stock/super stock racer told me that sportsman racers are nothing more than “filler” at NHRA events. As far as TV coverage…….I gave up on NHRA over a year ago. Just my .02

I’m with you, V-Bob. Without a doubt, it was the worst presentation ever. I spoke to T.C. Lemons the other day and he said he couldn’t stand it, so he turned it off. My two-cents worth? Okay, what about Pat Dakin? Hell, he drove some of the most beautiful Top Fuel cars ever — those owned by G.L. Rupp — however, he received no “honorable mention,” then again maybe it’s because he ponied up his own money and had no actual sponsor. Hey, I’m all about the little guy! Especially in Top Fuel!

And Paul Page . . . puhleeze! I’ve been a drag racing addict for over 40 years and I’ve long been a student of the lingo. Never ever have I heard a racer say, “Let’s get this thing back to the pits so we can ‘fall all over it.'” Give me a break! Then he always says, “So-and-so went away.” Wrong again!
The DRIVER never goes away. The common announcer’s phrase going back decades was always something like, “Dale Funk in the English-Frakes & Funk Kentucky Moonshiners car has the supercharger go away.” Or, “Backdoor Bob” Struksnes from Minot, North Dakota, had the engine go away in the lights.”

Jeez, gimme a break. I’ve never produced a TV broadcast, but I sure know what’s interesting and what’s a waste of time. You and me, V-Bob. We could rule!

I am not sure that NHRA and thinking should be in the same sentence. That was the worst show ever. What I see
is that NHRA has their chosen few and they are and will be famous. If you are the little guy running against them
you are not famous and you are barely worth mentioning. We should be seeing a show that is showcasing the cars
and all of the drivers. What marketing director at a corporation would watch that show and want to have his
companies advertising dollars go to NHRA drag racing?
