Ok …so I gets the Trick Truck straightened (Trans) out ,but now Wifes car …2004 Ford Escape is ,as she says “fluttering’ (love the girls discriptions). Back up -break to stop- wants to stall….even now at 45 or 55and stopping for a light,it’s “fluttering”. My trusty family mechanic says it needs a Fuel Injection service…for about 90.bucks….”interveinious Drip” of cleaner -some kind of “flush” and clean the throttle plate of carbon. Says it’s from the ethanol in the gas. So’s I get a second opinion. Peter at Minchkin GMC says its not the ethanol…just crap gas they’re throwing at us. Says Cars with just 20-30 thousand miles ,getting valve jobs 😯 thanks to all the junk building up.So’s I think (Dino NOT a mechanic)…why not give it a healthy dose of Injector cleaner -like two instead of one cans….and see if it clears up…NO? your wisdom is appreciated…Don’t Hot Rodders have a better solution? Come to think of it …..the old Trick Truck likes to stall sometimes.
Usually Geneseo Ale and chocolate icecream 😆 😆 😆 😆 You had to expect that Dino with that heading.
Pat
Maybe from YOU…ya old fart
Dino…Have it ‘scanned’ (OBD II tester) for codes,if clear, then perhaps a throttle position sensor,or idle control sensor may be the problem (make sure they have correct current going to them. You might wanna try cleaning the throttle body first with a good scrubbing around the throttle plate (may be carboned up badly, causing plate to stick).Usually you get a ‘surge’,and lack of power, when the injectors get a weak spray,or start dripping instead.Sounds like yours are o.k. at higher speeds of what you mentioned.I doubt it’s the mass air (map) sensor,as that condition which is ‘stalling’,when coming to a stop.My 2 cents worth,Maybe (????) it will help. 🙄
OK All Fixed…scanned and found Bad Coil on # 2 …so changed all the plugs and that coil….Runs great and gets better gas milage…Had the whole thing Tuned up and all that stuff -Throttle body & plate cleaned too.Interesting …Good OLD FORDS…first major expense in 5 years.
If I remember correctly. V Bob had the ‘same’ problem last year with his Ford pickup. Coil pack also.
Crap gas a major factor
Hope you guys didn’t drive too many miles with that miss……. 🙁 If so you, might be looking at a new catalytic converter soon……….…P.S. Crap gas is a major problem but that is not what ruined your coil….All of the manufacturers coils SUCK.. 😡
Don … we hopped right on it …BEFORE the engine light even came on…Took 3 days to get an appointment…on the way to it -THEN the light came on.
