I’m so sorry to hear that Bernie Partridge, the NHRA National Event Announcer for many years, has passed on, he was always a dear friend of mine.
Even during the most turbulent times between Wally and myself, Bernie was always very nice and treated me well on the PA at the NHRA National events. In fact is was in Indianapolis, 1962, at the US National that Bernie coined the term, “Big Daddy”, when I set the National record of 180.36 MPH, on gasoline in Connie Kalitta’s AA/GD, Bernie said over the PA; “Well, we are going to have to call him “Big Daddy” from now on”! The name stuck and I have made a lot of money using it.
Rest in peace Bernie, you will be remembered and missed by a lot of people.
