The last picture was Sam’s Place as I remember it but think the name changed later. Remember testing in the morning run to Sam’s for the break at lunch and back to the track.
It was amazing how much better the cars ran in the afternoon. The good old days and that sure wouldn’t work today.
Yeah Tom, I remember it as Sam’s Place and then later I believe it was Gene’s and then
Jayce’s. I remember when it was Sam’s, you would be lucky if you could squeeze in there
at lunch time or at the end of race day. 😆 We did get away with a lot back in those days
for sure ❗ 😮
Frank… 😎
Yeah Frank, visiting the ‘ole’ sight of Dover, is like a ‘ghost’ like atmosphere if you ever raced there. Close your eyes, and clear away the cobwebs in your brain, you can still imagine and hear the sounds of drag cars, blasting down the 1/4, of once was, Dover Dragstrip! 😥 😉 Pete.
Pete,Frank,
That ghost atmosphere is a great way to put it. I have gone back there a few times…some before Dino started this site. I actually walked the whole place. At one point up where the stands in front of the pit concessions were, I stopped and looked back where the starting line was. It was very quiet that day and yes….imagination took over and engines were roaring. This has happened more than once. Pretty freaky!

Whoever took those pictures have better treasure them for if they went back by it on June 5th both those buildings were knocked down and just a pile of wood.
OH BOY Lisa! Any idea what’s going on? Was it sold again, and now in the stages of development? I know those buildings were like ‘Dover’ landmarks for years! Sad to hear there now gone, and like the dragstrip itself, ‘just a memory’ now in our minds! 😮 🙁 Pete.
HEY EVERYBODY! did some google searches today as Lisa’s post got me going. http://www.realtor.com 12594, new listing. 715 acres, 80 acre lake, warehouse type buildings, Pleasant Ridge Road. $10.500,000.00 ! we better take our last look ASAP.

I said waaaay back on this forum to have the state on N.Y. or through private donations a historic marker placed on the site near the road. NOBODY wanted to hear about it so thats all I have to say about that!
