Ade Knyff and Bernie Regal had a real winner here. Several years ago, I got a call from the son of one of the members of the Logghe-Marsh & Steffey Junior Fueler, which the A&B car was a virtual twin to. I don’t remember which partner his father was, but he called because I had mentioned the car in some editorial and was surprised I remembered it. Those two cars had the kind of reputation that got there before they did.
Ade and Bernie were inducted in the Northeast Hot Rodding Hall of Fame (DRAG RACER Magazine, Jan. ’09, pg. 12) last fall at New England Dragway, along with Myron Picard, Butch Holmes, Dale Hall, Jack Doyle, Don Roberts, Arnie Karp, and Keith Hughes.
When I first started going to Dover I was about 14 years old . After seeing the dragsters run I was hooked I knew right then that I had to have one I started racing a dragster when I was 17 and I have never raced any thing but a dragster .It’s just as much fun now as it was back then.By the way Dale Hall’s son Scott also races in Top Dragster so we have 3 second generation racers in the same class Wayne Hoffman BJ Masiello and Scott Hall I think that’s pretty cool.
Am hooked up with Rich Donofrio who took tons of photos 61-63. Gonna have him help me ID some of these cars. Ron Abbott a favorite …I have photos of the short DragMaster look “Hellzapoppin “AND a newer version to post soon. Still need info on Dan Slitten And Broughton . Who’s got photos of Bill Barnetts “Soupy Sales” lime green rail ?AND don’t know why haven’t seen any of “The Third Rail’ -Frank Biscoglio “pacesetters Team” …only a few in the Photo topic “NYC ’69 Show”. .?
I was wondering if anyone had pics of a neighbors dragster that ran about 1963. It was olds powered I believe (I was 13 yrs old) I’m thinking 4 Stromberg 97’s. I’m not sure who was the actual owner but the guys involved were Mike Grindley, George Hanna and John Mallon.
Need more info ….Color ..distinguishing markings -lettering …Years run…City ,State..track down old Records who lived there that year ?
Sorry Dino, they all lived in Yonkers and I believe they only raced Dover, John Mallon has passed on, Mike Grindley was my neighbor and I still see him a couple of times a year. He won’t own a computer but his younger brother has one and I was hoping to surprise him. He still has the 69 BOSS 429 he bought new. He was an aircraft mechanic at Westchester County airport. John Mallon I believe was NYPD. I’ll try and get more info.
The big guy with the ceeegar is Al Roto.I think he owned or worked in a machine shop in New Britian. He had his hands in some nice race cars. 😀
Bill Barnett was/is the mayor in Naples,Florida. 😮 You can easily track him down.Last name the car was called “Bill Barnett’s Underdog”,because of the smallblock Ford engine, tuned by Pete Callo,of So.Jersey.
John 😉
Did he fit in it, to Drive it ?
I ain’t going there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😳
