Is that the dragster that had the jack stands? The hydraulic jack stands that would lift the rear tires off the ground at the starting line and drop the dragster on the ground for the green light when the tires were up to speed. I remember the next years NHRA rule book in bold print “No jack stands allowed”
no …that came a little later…He was a real innovator….His “vacuum’ under car scoop is what killed him when it broke loose when the chassis flexed and the front tires also ripped off the rims. He experimented with an automatic Cammer Ford Fueler also . His speed at the Nationals prompted NHRA to order him to put a chute on the car(‘Over 150”) …he didn’t like the idea…said If you build with good enough Brakes ,you don’t need a chute.
Sneaky Pete’s “jackstand car” was at the ’63 U.S. Nationals.I remember the track announcer going nuts the first time he made a pass. 😀
