Well all packed up and ready to head out in the morning for ETOWN, NJ for the NHRA Summernationals this weekend. My long time friend Carl “Bootie” Booth will join me for our 35th straight year attending this ETOWN NHRA national event. We’ll hook up with V-Bob
and Mike Leroux down there. They’ll be there for Friday only as they’re planning on running
at the Valley on Sunday. “The Heat Is On” ❗ ❗ 😆

Frank and da boyz,I kinda pity you, gonna be a “HOT” one ,down there a ‘E’ town! You won’t need a grill to cook on, just use the blacktop in the staging lanes! 😳 Any event, enjoy the ‘action’!!! :geek: 😉 Pete.

Our Buddies Bob Sweatland and Daughter have the Lil Misbehavin Funny there…V was at the Lagana Fueler pit area…The Team says Hi to everybody…plenty going on …V & Franks Dover Shirts getting a bunch of new ODF ‘s coming up to them..Hicks Brothers Team that ran a Duece altered …guy that ran a 56 Ford…V-Bob blasting me too much info …he’s calling back later.Brian Darcy has his fueler there to cackle. Good to see John, I have not had the time to stop down to his house for a beer and a bullshit session lately. I’ll try to make some time next week, John is a good guy. ……………Mikey 😆
Oh Baby ❗ Talk about heat ❗ Before I forget, congrats to Lincoln Morehead for his
victory in Super Stock and also to Tom Goldman, who won his first National event in
Super Gas with his 58 Corvette ❗ 😆 Hey Patina, Tom says HELLO ❗ Hey Pete,
we had some hamburg patties in the cooler that boiled ❗ 😆 Should have made some
chili ❗ 😆 😆 Also spent an hour with the Lussier Bros. from Pittsfield,MA. They
debuted their new 55 Chevy in the Top Sportsman class. They had some issues and their
weekend ended a little early. Spent time with the V-Man and Mike L. on Friday in the pits
and at our camp. Dover shirts attracting a lot of old Dover fans and good stories ❗ This
was the Summernationals of old ❗ ❗ 😆

Thanks for sharing Frank,no doubt,’the heat was on’! However, you guys did get to enjoy the show! My main squeezes brother Joe, was down in Millville (south Jersey) over the weekend also, racing his formula. He agreed,it was ‘HOT’ there also! 😳 . He got a little bit of front body damage, however, squeezed his way up to 12th out of 36 cars in his class.I only wish yesterday’s weather, was todays’ ! You don’t know how disappointed it was,not going to the ‘Valley’s’ show! 😡 that got washed out! Today’s weather would have been ‘PERFECT’ Frank!!! Oh well…Pete.
HI GUYS! I attended the summers all 4 days 1974-1982, before I bought a house. had the time of my life. had my first introduction to the teardown barn with a friend who won class. WOW! talk about fussy people. we were there a long time and I learned more about American ingenuity (cheating) than I did any other place up till then. those NHRA tech inspectors were real party poopers. one year we were parked a couple of spaces down from JENKINS and his vega. they were constantly taking it apart. needless to say, I watched. all the dover “stars” were always in attendance. I remember viscome’s gorgeous ss/c thunderbolt to name one. so nice it was a shame to beat the crap out it, but he did. atta boy.. 53.00 to spectate on sunday-times have changed.
I was there on Friday. Can somebody answer this for me? For the last two years there were no alcohol funny cars or dragsters participating at this event. Why is that?
Good question. I never really thought about it before. I’d like an answer too. Anybody?? ……………Mikey 😆
😀 😀 😀 Hey Pete…the “real” Summernationals”@ E-Town in July every year…weather-wise was a carbon copy (early June) of this year…our Super/Stock Thunderbolt to me was/is indeed a memorable car…but not because of the car 🙁 🙁 🙁 …I had posted a long “moment”/story previously (could be “found” somewhere on this site)…my real,very,long-time,genuine friend “Wild” Willie Hormerete had put a lot of effort in this car…(we executed the cosmetics in & out)…making it a pretty strong/consistant runner…his passing…not too long after…left me in a mindset…really couldn’t/wouldn’t even look at the T-Bolt…somewhere in one of photo sections (here)…(I ain’t “smart” enough to “find”)…is a photo or two of that car…we did win several NHRA “Best Appearing” Car awards with the car at Division 1 points race @ Maple Grove…and Division 1 National Open in Canada (Sanair)…that Thunderbolt was “real”…number 77 production # from Dearborn Steel Tubing… originally sold to Bill Rick Ford in Centralia,Illinois…it came to our attention through longtime Ford funny car racer/pal Tommy Grove…and Herb McCandless sr…who had done all the suspension/roll cage/tubbing/up-dating, etc. work on car…after parting employ with Sox & Martin…opening his own race car “shop”… 😀 😀 😀 Drake…have two longtime “bud’s”, Michigan’s Ray Pacquet & West Virginia’s Paul Adams…currently are running very up-dated “clone” Super/Stock Thunderbolts (SS/B)…Ray won class at Indy in 2012…with a 8.81 @ 150…pretty awesome for a square “old” shoebox…’64 Fairlane 😆 😆 😆 rule changes/heads/cams/clutchless transmissions/clutches, etc. coupled with 35 more years of new technology…makes it all possible…awesome 😀 😀 😀
You’re right about the alcohol cars not being at Etown the last two years. Not sure why?
Some kind of different format with regional meets. Haven’t figured it out but maybe can
find out why through Chucky Sabis, who also crews for Eric Lourie’s alcohol funny….
Frank…
I have asked the resident experts at Moroso and I was told due to track operating hours limitations and low participation the alcohol classes were eliminated.
