OK Gang….John Worden – the Editor Of Eastern Hot Rodder Magazine has ‘invented” a Whole New ‘extra added atttraction’ at The Dover Nostalgia Drags…Basically the concept is to combine a number of old time elements into one….the run what ya brung Street Race format with a FLAG STARTER just the way it was on those dark back roads.(at a Safe controlled track) ..the Idea of a real Street-Strip car that is LEGAL-registered for the street but hopped up,JUST LIKE the old days of drive it to track-pop the hubcaps and let er rip….And To valid the streetability of the car …you have to DRIVE it in a Cruise Route ON THE STREET to a checkpoint (hope its a Burger Stand)…Drive it back -Then Run.This fills the gap of Park it and Show and RACE only Cars .So heres the whole Deal:
EASTERN HOT RODDER Magazine Presents
“THE FIRST ANNUAL “Fastest Street Car At The Valley”
STREET CAR SHOWDOWN
Saturday August 10th- Dover Drag Strip Nostalgia Drags-Lebanon Valley Dragway
-Open to all American powered RWD cars and trucks with mufflers and D.O.T. tires although, in light of it • being held at a nostalgia event we prefer ‘74 and older.
-Cars can be trailered to the event, but must drive the 20-30 mile round trip cruise.
-All cars must be registered, insured and inspected (if required in the state they are from). NO dealer plates
.-All cars must pass track tech for the times they run.-No cry babies.
-All cars will get a Fastest Street Car At the Valley contestant decal for their window.
-All participants get teched in and meet at the Eastern Hot Rodder tent by 11:00 AM to go over the rules and, get ready for THE CRUISE. The cruise will go from LVD to a checkpoint and back. We will have people along the route as spotters.
At the checkpoint the driver must shut the car off, get out of the car and sign the book. They must then restart the car, under its own power and drive back to the track to sign in for the race part.
-All remaining contestants will make at least one time trial. -Once the time trials are done, we will pair the cars up as close together as possible for heads up racing (ie; a 10.40 car will be paired with another 10.40 car). This will keep the runs close and competitive. The winners of each round will be paired to the next closest ET for the next round.
-If the driver isn’t happy with their time trial they can tell us what they want their “dial in” to be. Ex: car usually runs 10.00, but spun a bit and only ran 10.3, driver can lower his time to 10.0. They can not make their 10.0 a 10.3 though.
-If a car runs 5 tenths quicker than their time trial they will be disqualified for sand bagging.
-If your car breaks you loose.
-Last guy standing wins it. This will prove to be a fast and durable, real street car. It may not end up being the fastest if the quicker guy blows up, but he made it through the carnage and competition.
-Flagman starts to eliminate electronics and make it more street race like and crowd pleasing.
-The winner gets a full spread in Eastern Hot Rodder, a trophy and a cool jacket declaring him/her ‘Fastest Street Car At The Valley’.
-There will be a trophy awarded for fastest pass and quickest pass as well others like greatest wheelstand.
-This will be a fun event with no extra cost to run over the normal $35 fee to run.
-If you have any questions drop me a line. We will also post these rules on our website; http://www.easternhotrodder.com.
The first year participants will forever be the pioneers of this class. There can only be one first time, so come out join up, get the window sticker, so you can brag to all your buds that you participated in the very first Fastest Street Car at The Valley race. You’ll have the magazine as proof too.
