Been awhile so heres a treat.
This Could be one of the earliest Ccontruction shots we have found to date of the ‘building of Dover’ Just Sent in by Tim Hallock (Drove the Alley Oop Car). This shows the blocks laid out to build the Pit Side conncession stand….In the background are the Rest Rooms (outhouses ) are already up on the specatator side. What you can’t see is the track…hidden by the camera shot angle below the land, looking like its not there.Tim was in on all the original contruction and paving and remembers ALL the details. He reports the following : Excavation and Dirt By Eddie Brigman,of Hopewell Junction.Scrapper pans were towed behind D8-Cats, 10-15 Ft. Cut ….1500 ft. deposited to create shut down area….approx. 35,000 yrds moved. Dirt equal to 2,300 truck loads. BlackTop made by Conn. Colprovia in Brookfield,Ct. Start line to 800 ft. mark was an epoxy base asphalt with powdered natural asphalt added to the mix.He was plant supervisor and worked on this mix design with Adrian Talbot, who had patents on mixes for tennis courts and other special applications .D.F. MacNamme Co. Paved it. The Fence Posts were installed by the Danbury Modifiers. Two handled post hole diggers ! Seth Coughlin Built the original Clocks & Timers. He was early patrner with Chet & Joe but dropped out in mid ’61 ??? Joe Archire Constructed All the Buildings.Tim worked weekends on the grader ,doing all the staging lanes and Tech Area. We’ve got a lead on other Shots..Henchman in Wingdale on the case.

Interesting shots…if the official opening was in ’61, when do you think these shots were taken? Any idea when ground was broken to start construction?

Wonder if Seth Coughlin was any relation to Jeg. ❓

Was the summer before…Chet Did have other location choice right in Dover…that got shot down…too close or too loud…went for this property as 2nd option. First choice was flat as pancake,Tim related. But All the time …the final property was always zoned as ‘farmland’..thats what I heard….144 acres.

If you look real close ,you can see they’re serving their famous coffee…thats what jolted me into action every sunday…ya know as I always Said “Strained through a dirty old sock”. Really …Leroy and The American Legion gang ran it all those years.Don’t think Chet & Joe got a dime…pretty much funded that nice building they have now on the corner of RT.22 and Pleasant Ridge Rd….maybe a little Local Town ‘trade-off’ with Legion officers on their side when the operating permit came up for vote each year.Too bad…most track owners reley on food & drink sales as a cushion for thier overhead.

bailed out the track’s financial problems ❓ Where do you think “V” Bob
got that saying of his; “Holy Hockey Pucks” ❗ 😆

Always ‘wondered’ what was Leroy’s ‘special’ ingredients in the ‘burgers’ that made them ‘crunchy’ when eating them ? Now I know; dirt and dust (at no extra charge) that came from the drag cars coming back from a run, parking next to the ‘snack-shack’! 🙄 😮 🙁 😆
