Smokey (Mark M. ) called to relate that Fred’s Wife Pat called him today with the News. Smokey wanted me to post it. Seems about 2-3 weeks ago ,he had a massive Heart Attack, and the doctors repaired some arteries, and was put on life support. All was going well until today. Fred is remembered by Dover Vets as Doc Burgess’s Crew Chief on the Black Arrow, living right next store. He Ran his own “Yellow Fever” ’59 Chevy junior stocker,’And built up Murphy’s Speed & Custom In Wingdale. He catered to the Ovel Track crowd ,building and selling parts for almost 30 years. He was 61.

Got a tire deal through him for Hoosier Tires when I was running the Dirt Tracks in N.Y, N.J, and PA. Nice guy, and willing to help anyone.

Got to know Fred about 2 years ago. We became good friends. Fred was always there to help. All you had to do was ask. Fred sponsored 3 of our Antique Tractor Pulls last year. Was at his wake Sunday. The line of people to pay their respect to Fred was endless. RIP FRED
