No lettering on it But looks like a purchase from a Big shot ,going by the wheels.Obviously simple repaint. These photos gratefully dug up and submitted by Vinnie Sciarabba (still has his Dover original red & black Mach 1)…Ok ….Its June ’69,and looks like their out shaking it down. Good close-up of “Crew-Chief” & Driver. Dover CSI …..ID these guys and Maybe former owner of car.
Wha! Nobody ?
I wuz gonna defer to Drake, it looks like it might have been Tom Groves Ford Charger and thats a 67/68 body style. I think Drake had that car but I’m not positive.
I AM GOING TO TAKE A CRACK AT THIS I AM SAYIN IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE THE UNLETTERED CARMEL FORD FUNNY CAR WELL ? 😕 😕 DINO
Don’t think so…Thought someone would recognize the guys in first shot…those wheels are throwing me off….and the front spoiler doesn’t match Joniac-Grove or Tasca.
WELL COULD IT BE A MICKEY THOMPSON ? FUNNY 😕
Dick Loehr?
Put the question out on Draglist…will see what happens.
Can’t be Drakes, It has a 392/354 hemi. Drake ran Fords
Dennis ( our North East historian of sorts)…has been lurking in the shadows. 😆 ..Thanks for the info! Now…Is that Charlie & Bob in the photo? Any photos of it lettered? and did they have any success with it. Used Dover as a test track.
I don’t know, Dino. I don’t think that it’s the same car. Slightly different profile, and the area behind the door windows on the blue car looked slightly recessed, where the red one looks smooth. JMO. …………..Mikey 😯 😕
It’s the same car
Look at the headers.
3 pipes strait out.
One bent back to clean the track/
Heat the tires.
Dennis is correct ..(usually is ).after knowing who to look for -found this…signature front end spoiler not found on others.
Also found this:
“The car debuted with a 427 SOHC engine, which later was replaced by a reliable 392 Chrysler Hemi. Loehr ran a best of 7.86 at 189.70 with the car at Orange County. The car was replaced a by new, lighter Mustang in 1969. Dick Loehr eventually left funny cars for Pro Stockers. (Photo provided by Drag Racing Memories; info provided by http://www.draglist.com)”
