Propane explosion In New Milford : one injured
NEW MILFORD, Conn. (AP) A dispatcher says firefighters believe a propane leak sparked a reported explosion at a New Milford business that injured a 50 year old man.
The dispatcher says it appears the victim pushed a button to open a garage door this morning, and that action ignited propane that had leaked from a tank of a forklift parked inside.
The person suffered burns and was taken to Danbury Hospital. The victim’s name and medical condition weren’t released.
The building off Route 7 caught fire, and firefighters are trying to put it out. The name of the business hasn’t been released.
Authorities say reports of an explosion were called in shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday.
Don Reporting on phone as I type…NOT Big Als….Construction Co. NEXT to Big Als ….Everybody all right.
The building was in Big Al’s complex…Still waiting on damage reports but no one has been killed…The const. co. building is totally destroyed and some damage to homes and other business buildings but minimal….I’ll check it out again later when I can get closer and report back…………Don……
Just talked to Lee V. at Als. Blew stuff off the walls and buckled their doors a bit but no problem. Debris IS blown up to two miles away -insulation and building parts. Two houses nearby actually ‘moved’ off their foundation. Explosion heard 15-20 miles away. So check your stuff for leaks ! Think now it was a propane heater tank up in ceiling .Brian knows from Propane Eh? Photos would be trick.
This Forum is Great!…one of our alert guys sent me this TV coverage link:

The building accross from Al’s has a lot of valuable vintage Ferraris in it.
Al baran
. . . . .Al …I think Grover Works there …Its OK [dino]
Sheee…IT…!!!
It ain’t pretty…
We have lots of those propane driven fork lifts at my place of work and I am going to look at those a little differently from now on. They always stink because they leak gas… Their tanks are about the size of bar room beer kegs.
Al Lombardo’s interview comes home to us…eh. So then… if Mimi Letto has “structural damage” in her restaurant then what kind of damage was done to any of Al’s project cars…? I hope he checks in here about it.
gas leak was the heater not fork lift ….not to say it can’t happen from a lot of fork lifts at your work ….grover
