B/FD proved to be an interesting class with a number of “stockers” entered. The round-one opener pitted Don Gay against Jack Chrisman, the man who invented the game. Gay had low e.t. for the full-bodied fuelers, and that must have rattled the master as Chrisman red-lighted. Gay wailed to a 9.47 at 156 only to blow in the lights when an easy run would have done to job.
Steve Bovan and Bob Sullivan, both newcomers to the fuel stocker ranks, seemed to be a bit off the combination and were easy prey to the legitimate fuelers. In the final, Dan Slitten got there first to eliminate Robert Andrews in an all-dragster show.
