Lagana clinches IHRA T/F championship!

One of our very own, Bobby lagana Jr. clinches this years IHRA Top Fuel Championship!
I can’t think of harder working guys, nor more deserving for their sheer tenacity.

From the bed of a ramp truck to the top of the world, Lagana’s rise to Top Fuel World Champion was one of the most unlikely success stories in drag racing history. But as of Saturday night Lagana and his band of misfits, which includes his father Bobby Lagana Sr. and brother Dom Lagana, are now IHRA Nitro Jam champions.
…”We are blessed to do this. Even all those years with no sponsor, no money, going from race to race on that ramp truck, we were always lucky to be able to do this,” Lagana said. “And now we are at a higher level than we ever thought possible. I look back at how hard we fought to get to four seconds and now we are running with the best of them. It just shows that good things can happen to those that put in the time and heart.”
…Lagana won the championship by sweeping the Top Fuel category Saturday night, taking down both cars from the Mitch King Motorsports stable to walk away with the Nitro Jam Ironman and claim the championship by 10 points over Litton. Litton struggled all weekend and never managed to put together a full pass in three tries.

Still working on 2011 things, got some things might pan out.
we are on our way out to vegas and pomona, with dom driving with big O tires on the car.”
…As to who owns the cars His reply was:
” it is our family car, we actually have two complete dragsters ready to run. we are just partners in a sponsor deal..”

Wow can you image pulling up to the line and “The Greek” is in the other lane. I wonder if Lagana Sr. ever ran him, probably not because Bob sr. was into funny cars. Should be a good race although I’m torn over who to root for.

This is the first time Lagana and Millican have faced each other in eliminations. They leave together and Millican has the lead until around half track when the car started mixing up cylinders. Lagana with his career best E.T. and speed for the win. Dom Lagana’s incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.211, 660ft-3.136/272.94 and on to 2nd round against Dixon. Also another Dover racer Mickey Ferro; (W) Mickey Ferro (Ryco Hydraulics Monte Carlo) 0.061 5.559 257.68
(L) Keeter Ray (Keeter Ray Racing Mustang) 0.059 5.662 253.18

Ferro is 1 – 0 against Ray in prior events. Ferro is currently number two in the points. They leave together and then it is all Ferro with the quickest pass of the event for the win. Mickey Ferro’s incremental times: 60ft-0.939 sec., 330ft-2.461, 660ft-3.660/205.76 mph, 1,000ft-4.686. Ray with his quickest pass of the weekend in a losing effort. Ferro will have lane choice over DeJoria in the next round.

Trick or Treat what shall it be. Dominic beats Dixon going to semis;

(W) Dom Lagana (Tire Kingdom Dragster) 0.056 3.967 305.63
(L) Larry Dixon (Al-Anabi Racing Dragster) 0.089 3.984 248.93

This is the first time Lagana and Dixon have faced each other in eliminations. Lagana is out of the first and Dixon has the lead before they go by the Christmas tree and then his engine starts to go away around 800 feet. Lagana is able to chase him down to take the win by 0.0504 seconds (approximately 18 feet). The Top Fuel Championship will now be determined in Pomona. Lagana will give up lane choice to Brown in the semifinal.
