Starting in 2015,we are revamping-redesigning and even switching the parking layout for our Car Show portion. Issues for 4 years have to be addressed to make it more ‘relatable’ to our weekend and all for the better. Not yet worked out the final plans …but stay tuned. As I did in the eighties at the Danbury Airport “Time Tunnel Shows” this will be “the Big One. Not following the usual ‘cookie cutter” formats we’ve all been through too many times. Want it to be special. Thinking of a “Show & Go” opportunity for certain entries that want to race to have that opportunity. Tricky but do-able. Now here’s where many minds can contribute ‘positive’ suggestions and we’ll review all your ideas. My new ‘assistants’ will be instrumental in this area of operation.We have some great hidden talent in our group with years of Show planning experience.
We just got a great boost on this from Vic Falcone…The New York rep /advisor for Right Coast who put on the Syracuse Nationals. In past years he’s been a behind the scenes ‘helper’ to get the word out. We’re increasing his assistance.He’ll be our ‘on the road’ ambassador at a ton of events from Rhinebeck-Ty Rods at Stafford-Syracuse in March -Saratoga – Norwich ,N.Y.- Guptills giant cruise and many shows & cruises in the New York region. Great guy, always there to help.
As It stands now…The Big Lot always used for the Sunday Show will be retained….But…the arrangement of cars and Parking rows will be redesigned to include Angle parking, so ya see the whole car, not just the grill & front end, and all the cars will ‘face’ the pits. The ‘Drag Alley” nostalgia race car display will be where the swap vendors usually are ….right by the two entrances to the grandstands. All swap vendors will now be to the right of Howie’s office, backed up to the round track. That Area is currently (finally) being cleaned up with all the junk being hauled out. Our Friday gang of helpers will be busy ‘dressing up that whole lot with banners, flags & streamers to pump up the effect. “Dover Original Cars’ will be lined up like last year along the cement drifter barriers as that worked out perfect. We’ll have a whole new ‘crew’ of Show workers under Rich Heads direction….with a better overall Rod & Custom show for the fans. More improvements at our next Planning Meeting to be ironed out.
Just Got The Confirmation From Good-Guy Phil Liddle,the founder of Albany area DEAD END CRUZERS. His Group has volunteered to oversee the Whole Sunday Rod & Custom Show under the direction of our own Richie Head. .Phil ran Country Street Machines in the 80’s ,before Forming his loose knit “Cruzer” group. They’ve been around for 15 years now, with shows averaging 200-300 cars. He has about 100 members with active 40-50.His own chopped 55 Ford P.U. was voted top 5 by Hemmings. More features to the show this year should make it our biggest ever, And He remembers Dover Well. ….KOOL!
