We’re searching our Collections for Dover –Shirley Shots….Found this in a post AND have made contact with Shirley….Hoping for more feed back from her. In our posts ,it’s mentioned that Ron Abbott sold her one of his cars….the Kent Fuller Chassis .That is what we believe ran at DoverAnd maybe her twin engine rail .Going to conect all the dots and report back … shot posted by jvore:
Inquiring mind would like to know;Shirley ran both Fonda Speedway and the ‘Valley’ with the ‘Vette’,(prior to a rail).Did she ever run the “Vette’ at Dover back then also? I can’t remember seeing her there?
don’t know….I’ll ask her.
Didn’t Doc Burgess run against Shirley Muldowney in 1967,,,match race at Lebanon Valley (AWB vs Dragster).
Wonder if she ever returned the favor at Dover in 1967.

Clyde McCaba would know if you can find him. He lives somewhere in South Carolina. Does anybody here have contact with him…? Ron Abbott might be another good source of information.
I’ll check with the Doc and if someone has the time to search the ODF galleries…buried in there someplace is a shot of her on the return road.

Was it possible ????
that Shirley ‘Cha Cha’ Muldowney was at Dover in
1970 or 1971 with “Bounty Huntress” 1970 Shelby Mustang Funny Car.
The Chrysler Hemi powered car.
Maybe versus Bernella Woods ‘Funny Honey’ Dodge Charger………
She ran the Funny Car from 1970 thru 1972.
In 1965 she got behind the wheel of the dragster (Jack Muldowney built).
A small block injected Chevy engine.
But she was still competing with the 1963 Corvette too.
She was still running the Corvette in 1966, in D/SP.
In 1967 she was running a supercharged ‘blown’ small block Chevy in the dragster.

………..65 with injected car…how’d that Mopar get in here line-up?
HEY
Like I was told before, Brazee Bros. Sabis Jr. Fueler beat Shirley “Don’t Call Me Cha Cha” Muldowney at Dover Drag Strip. Have to find out from one of them the story of that day at the fast track Dover!!
‘V’
Shirley first ran the Dragster (327 Chevy w/injectors) Junior Fueler in 1965.
And also in 1966.
In 1967, they went to the 327 Chevy with the blower.
But friends say she still ran several Corvettes.
Saturday nights at Fonda Dragstrip (1/8 mile).
And Lebanon valley too.
A local guy Ken Miller, who had a 1964 Mercury Cyclone with a 289/271 HP (K-Code) ran
against her at Lebanon Valley in 1966.
They were both in D/Stock.
He thinks she was running a 1963 Split-window Coupe with a 327/300 HP.
And another guy, ran against her at Lebabon Valley in D/SP.
Where she was driving a 1962 Corvette 327, with a Moroso hood.
In 1963 she had a black 1963 Plymouth Fury 426/415HP Max-Wedge (push button automatic).
Ran in S/SA,,,,,,,,,,,,and turned an 11.78 at Milton, Vermont in late 63′.
How many cars did she drive.

Brian,,,,,,,,
In her book she discusses running a 63′ Plymouth Fury with a 426 Max-Wedge.
Torque-Flite push button of course.
A black 63′ Fury.
She claims she ran an 11.78 in the fall of 1963 versus Charlie ‘Northern Shaker’ Lendrum.
I guess the Mopar Factory heads were after her, trying to persuade her to sign up.
She ran the car in S/SA match races in;
Milton, Vermont
Fonda
South Glens Falls
Utica-Rome
Lebanon Valley
Tri-Cities Drag-Way (Endicott, NY)
pc
Her appearance fee; $150 (for Best 2 out of 3)
She had a Vette in ’62 with N. Y plates that read-CC96
Here’s her “own” biography
Born Shirley Ann Roque, Muldowney began street racing in the 1950s in Schenectady, New York. “School had no appeal to me. All I wanted was to race up and down the streets in a hot rod,” declared Muldowney. When she was sixteen, she married nineteen-year-old Jack Muldowney, who would build her first dragster. Jack Muldowney’s garage was located at 1701 Upper Union Street, Schenectady at the corner of Regent St. There is still a vehicular business, Tire Warehouse of Union Street, on the same corner.
It was Jack Muldowney who first taught me how to drive a car. Jack was the mechanic. He was the guy who tuned the cars that let the girl beat all the boys. I was a kid from upstate New York with no guidance, no direction. I was headed for trouble, nothing going for me. Then I found the sport at a very young age and was able to make something out of it.
In 1958, the then eighteen-year-old made her debut on the dragstrip of the Fonda Speedway. She obtained her NHRA license in 1965. She competed in the 1969 and 1970 U.S. Nationals in a twin-engine dragster in the Top Gas classification, but with Top Gas losing popularity, switched to Funny Cars, buying her first from Connie Kalitta.
We have a photo Somewhere of her on the return road with the single front engined car.Brian My Boy…dig that out .
