Uncle Dino,,,,,
A New Topic,,,,,,,,,like you suggested,,,,,,,,
1969 440 ‘cuda
A ‘special order’ ‘M’ Code,,,,,,,,,1 of only 344 built.
Fastback, F-8 Ivy Green (Dark Green) Metallic paint, with green interior.
Raced at Dover in 1973 and 1974,,in (B/SA) Stock Class,,,,,,,,,, then in 1975 in that stupid bracket (Heavy; 12.00 – 13.99),, I think thats what it was.
Left 100% completely stock, except for Cragars, then Ansen Mag-wheels and gears…
I sold it in 1977 for $2000,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Only 40 or so left today, (as per registry),,,,,,,,,,,,,Current value,,,,,,,,$65,000 to $75,000Paul Ceasrine
2 of them actually, a tie.
1967 Shelby “Street Comp 427 Cobra” gold roadster. Took $7500.00 for it in ’68. ๐ ๐
1970 “Hemi-Cuda” factory SS/DA car. Sold cheap at the end of the 1971 race season. ๐ ๐ Drove it for Tom Goluboff in March of ’72 at Dover, and run under the Natl record. ๐ฏ
John ๐
Our 66 bel-air wagon,427-425,4 speed 4.88 rear. One of one built on assembly line, all the other ones run in 1966 were 283 cars cloned. The other was my 1968 nova 396-375 one of 600 built. Lee.
All my ‘Vettes’ 63 (coupe and rag top, with hard top) 64 coupe,65 coupe (all small blocks) the others were great too,but the ‘Vettes’ stand out amongst them!
Mator,we never ‘assumed’ our cars back then would ever be worth that kinda money today;they were mainly our ‘daily-drivers’.One good thing came out of this all; thank goodness for car shows, and nostalgia drag events we have nowadays, still going strong! When attending one,we can ‘reminisce’,looking at ‘similar’ rides we once were ‘lucky’ to own back then.Count our blessings I guess,we once owned one or more of these ‘classics’!
Amen โ โ ! Pete….Very well put โ MEMORIES… ๐
Frank…
Almost frorgot “the one that got away”….My 40 Ford Sedan Delivery, with the 410 Buick in it. Ran it at Dover full bore. It ‘developed’ a knock ,so I sold it to ‘Some School Teacher” in Brookfield. Guess who ?- John Shimer! First meeting with him. My …we have come a long way.
Have some old photos to find and post ….John =You got some? so they can see. Oh- No interior! sat on a milk crate to drive and fell over backwards on those hard 1st to 2nd shifts! ๐
Lets here some more “worst move I made selling a car”…Remember another of mine…My 56 Ford hard top convertable ( No side posts when front & rear windows down.) Fiberglass front fenders…bored out 428 to 433 c.i. by Richie Mattoni Pro Machine. Built at Automobile Shop while I was working there. Input from Willie Hormente, Lee Valentine And Bill Davit.Big rear-4-speed..double pumper Holley. It was Fast! “liqidated’ it with other possessions before the first wife could get to it….in our ‘separation’. I sold it to some guys in Norwalk, who pulled the motor and junked the body.Word had it ,the motor was put in a street racer Mustang. The body was seen on the scrap pile at LaJoies Auto Wrecking.Don’t have one picture of it…..So whats Your Story?
Boy Dino, that’s a hard one to answer! I enjoyed them all! I’ll pick out one for now. Having ‘4” Vettes ( 63 to 65), I’d have to pick my 64 red coupe. It had all the options, 327 cu. in. 365 hp. After a few years,as a winter project, I built a 327-250 hp (balanced and blueprinted) for it. this was in ’71-72’. I wanted a ‘dual’ purpose car to run the drags and street. I also put a 373 ratio rear ( I got from Billy Milano). I ran it in H/Stock. It had ‘knock-off’ factory wheels ( no hub caps to remove at the drags). It also had a blow proof belhousing and clutch, and all new u joints. Won a ‘few’ trophy’s with it,and lots of fun driving, with low maintenance. In ’73’,put the 365hp back in and sold it for $ 1400.00 dollars ( I know what your thinking!) It’s still alive today as a summer cruiser, owned by a retired Kingston cop named Mike Jubie.
Dino……..I think you meant 401 Buick motor…………I loved the old Buick motors..When I stopped playing with Flatheads I started doing Nailheads…I had 3 street cars , one with a 322 and two with the 401…The 40 Chevy had the 322…The 51 Ford and the 57 Ford both had the 401….High School days……..Very cool… ๐
