We know where a lot of the workers are ….a lot on forum over the past 2 1/2 years …But a few have slipped through the cracks. Still looking for “Zeke”….Ronnie at 1/4 mile (Brewster ?) ….Bill McGarry (N.C.-?) …and so many came & went…lets put the Dover CSI into gear here. Also the last manager after Chris Swift-??? Bruce something-?
The Ronnie that I remember, worked in the tower with my ex-wife Wendy. Ronnie always had his dog with him, and he flew a single engine plane to the track a lot, and landed and took off on the 1/4 mile. Someone has to remember him! Also Harry Harrison, who owned Thunder Speed in Beacon, and Dave”Fluffy”Laffin. Dave had a Red 67 or 68 Impala SS with the 390 hp 427, and raced it occasionally. He also had a 57 Chevy, gold, former National Record Holder, that he bought and ran once in a while. 283,2-4s, and a 4spd. Enough lead in the quarters to sink the Queen Mary. They both worked at the big end, as did I. I took Dave’s place when his real job interfered with Dover. …………Mikey 😆
I called Cris Swift last night waiting for him to call back he’s still in Conn. Brian M.
I talked to Dave Laffin yesterday, former employee at Dover, whose place I took in the time slip shack. He still lives in Beacon, N.Y. in the same house he grew up in. He just got rid of a 56 Chevy that his son ran in some Nostalgia races. He’s working on an 84 Monte S/S, but his eyesight has gotten so bad that he has to have a couple more surgeries done just to have partial vision, and then will need specs(glasses) to see good. He is no longer on the forum, but I’m not sure why. He also is not on-line anymore, but intends to fix that problem in the near future. If someone remembers him, and would like to talk to him, PM me for his phone number. He’s interested in the 3rd Annual at the valley, and I’ll stay in contact with him to see if he can make it. He did have a nice ’68 Impala S/S with a 427 motor, Red with Gold Lace on the Cowl Induction hood. In a post under Car Clubs, I think he’s in one of the pictures I posted of the Southern Dutchess Timing Association, from Beacon. All the members that raced at Dover were consistent Class Winners. …………Mikey 😆
