Hey,finally figured out how to use the Dover site. We’re Rudy and June Bleakley, still living in NYS and still racing.Actually, our youngest son now races the car,and we’ve become the sponsors(the bank of mom and dad) We raced Dover from 1970-1973 or 4.Rudy ran a 69 MACH 428cj fastback, dark green in D/S.We ran for trophy. We no longer have that mustang, and I wish we’d taken off the 1/4 window before we sold it so we’d still have our Dover stickers.Ah well, what did we know?
I see a few names of people I remember in the many posts.Vinny Ceasarine is one of them.Vinny did our engine work when he had his shop in Shrub Oak.
Weather permitting,we’ll be at the reunion at Island Dragway this year.If you’re going let us know, would love to ‘hook up’ with you!
Welcome to the Forum….Hmmm… where’s our official “greeter”(Video Bob)…Have to get on him…Anyway ,I’ll do the Honors: Glad Ya found us ..Got any Dover photos ? fill us in on the current racer…plenty to see here…use the search feature as most headings have a bunch of pages. Ford guys in abundance here…You’ll see !
RUDY,
OH MY GOD! Isn’t this site great. Paulie here.
Remember you and your beautiful wife June at my fathers shop “Valley Motor & Machine”
on East Main Street, Jefferson Valley.
My Pop opened the shop there in October 1971. I know for a fact, that your 428 block was the first engine bored out at the shop. My father just bought a brand new Kwik-Way #FN
boring bar. You re-did the engine in the Mach 1 before the 72′ season. I still remember
sloshing oil in the cylinders of the block, as my father manual honed the cylinders to get the proper cross-hatch. Man, those were the days. Oil-soaked clothes and filthy hands.
Still remember the Mach 1, dark-green, light-green side panel stripe, and nice wheels.
Remember you putting in 4.30 gears. And, driving the car on the street. D/Stock.
Tough class back then in 72′. There was a black 66′ 427 Galaxie, and a black 66′ 427 Biscayne, both ran 12.60’s or so.
Last time I saw you, I think you re-stored a Shelby-Mustang, worth MUCHO $$$.
Hope all is well with the family. WOW 38 years ago 😮
Paulie
Dino,I have a few pictures from Dover,Fast Eddie Sharpman,Willie Burnett, remember him from Rye Ford? Also have Viscomi’s Funny car from Carmel Ford. There’s some 8mm film too,in pretty poor shape.I lent it out to whoever was running the original Dover reunion at Marcus Dairy, and don’t know whether he ever copied the film or not.It was returned and it’s in the house somewhere. Now……Dino,do you remember announcing our car as the Smokin,Chokin Ford? When I ran that thing on street tires it smoked the tires until the 60′ mark, then it really moved. Those were Goodyear polyglass tires.A lot of car with not enough tire.I think you and I might have talked at Marcus Dairy a long time ago.I grew up with Harry Loeber and his brother.Harry had the Blue Goose.
Sure …Ole Smoke N Choke….Get Me that Film..& photos .Figure we can salvage something…Didn’t Do Marcus …I was at Sycamore .Blue Goose -Corvair -Right? previous Announcer..Understand he passed away.
I just typed out and posted 2 replies, but they got eaten somewhere!
Harry Loeber had the Blue Goose,a 60 Chevy Impala, blue. He also announced occasionally. This would have been in the early 60’s.
Let’s try this again. The last post didn’t come through.Paul, nice to see you still have an interest in what we all loved so much, racing cars. How is Dad?Tell him and Mom we were asking for them.I remember making fun of him when he said he was going to retire, move to NC and start either a chicken or pig farm.I still laugh about that.We sold the CJ in 76 to a doctor who bought it as his son’s graduation present. The son grew up,moved to NYC,the doctor passed away, and the car sat on the estate until weeds and even a tree grew up around it.It was stolen from the property in 1987.A piece of paper was found next to the phone with the VIN,and they suspected the caretaker of stealing it and selling it off.Never found. We did indeed buy a shelby in 1989,had someone replace the lower quarters and paint it.Me and June did the rest.We showed it for a long time at all the MCA Nationals on the east coast, from Jersey to Tenn,NC,and Ga.and we drove it to all these places to compete.I bought a 68 coupe about 6 years ago for the track, sold the shelby in 2005,finished the 68,bought a 68 fastback for June, but it wasn’t enough car for her,so we got an 07 427R and sold the 68 fastback. My youngest son Kevin drives the 68 coupe. He posted video on youtube of the Fords at Englishtown,2009,under the name revinkevn.I have no idea how to link it here, but go check it out.He ran in the Gear Jammers class. He won it last year, and was runnerup this year. His foot shook off the clutch a bit,he deep staged and redlighted. They both broke out too. They ended up splitting the pot.
So…how am I going to get the pictures and video to you Dino??
Smoker …Are you planning on Bringing the race car to the Nostalgia Drags?.Post in the Team Check-In Topic at the Nostalgia Drags Heading. Got an any Photos?
If you’re Coming to the Reunion In Danbury…I’ll get them then….Otherwise U.S Mail…Address on bottom of Home page .Photos same day Turn-around…Film gets sent out to convert. All submitted Film Donors get a Viewable DVD copy and we need as much as possible to produce “The Big Video’.
Told you I didn’t have any Dover pics of the CJ? But that’s the 428 I ran in D/S at Dover.Vinnie Ceasarine redid the motor when I spun a bearing.Every day but Sunday it was the daily driver for June.I’m hoping to see a photo or some footage of it with all the old stuff you’ve put together.
Rudy
Don’t know who that was.It was either 71 or 72 when Dover had a Funny Car race.I think Viscomi would know.
