hi again dino, went to service auto ansonia ct this week ,talked to the owner who has been there since 1966.knew dube very well, good guy, good customer. had garage on maple st. till about 1975 or so,then lost contact.had not heard about him since. he would know.next guy, pete at valley machine in seymour ct. worked at daddio NEW auto parts in 1974 era,had stock car sponsored by NEW parts store, did not remember funny car in picture.pete lived around the block from dubes place in ansonia as a teenager and when the dodge was fired up the whole neighborhood would go down and hang out. said dubes was a very busy place.it is a shell gas station now.paul dube is not listed in local phone book.i asked a couple of car guys at valley machine who remember the cars, but lost track of him.anybody else out there in dover land?
Paul seems to have evaporated…Odd…we’ll all keep looking… Thanks for the Update…nice investigating !
Whoa!..nice launch!..Getting the Dover CSI team woke up on this one…That car needs to come East !…Reunion And Drags ! It can’t run right Without a Dover Decal ! Charlie will be impressed !
Used to run against some guys out of south Jersey with a 69 Camaro. I don’t know if they ever ran Dover. We were in the Pro/Stock circuit & WCS meets at the time. His name was Pete LaFrons (LaFons ?), the car was hugger orange & I don’t beleive it had any lettering.
We usually parked next to each other at the various meets. The guys on his team were all real charachters, & a lot of fun to have around.
Anybody out there know anything about them ?( this would have been in 73-74 )

way back -“just got off phone With Charlie Rutz…Up in Mass out on the Cape …Retired & in good health , restores Vettes and spends winters in Florida”. …” Jim Lovallo now lives in Ohio.”-still racing.
More finds from Brian…Here’s Rutz & Lovello Vette….(Rulo Competition)..black & white….but so was the car!
Hey Storm King,
I remember that orange ’69 Camaro very well. Pete LaFronz. I remember the car was called the ‘Happy Wanderer’ but I’m not sure that was lettered on the car. It was pretty much plain hugger orange. I recall it doing very well at local meets and wcs races long after the bulk of the ’69 Camaros were long gone from Pro Stock. I don’t recall him racing anything after that ’69. They were from north Jersey across the river from the big city.

…………Response to “Dick Simko’ inquiery from Bob Klein :
Dino,
I know that ‘Simmy’ lives in Stony Point, NY, My friend Tony (beat the Pied Piper) and I built and tuned his 56 2dr and the final 55 Six Pack Wagon. I don’t think Richy could change the oil, but even with one eye, he could sure cut the lights & shift.
I flat towed Richy to Indy a few times, when he beat Jack Clifford’s Fabulous Hudson Hornet, but was disqualified for being .002 over, engine was bored 60 over, but we would drive to Dover every weekend with it. If those West Coast Tech Inspectors, had measured at the top and bottom of the bore it was strickly kosher,.Dick Simoneck did all the machineing and balanceing. We like they say,” What you don,t know. you don,t know”. Jack ran for Stock Eliminator with one of the Hudson’s, and his hood latch failed and the hood wrapped right over the windshield and roof on the top end, one of the damnest sites I ever saw. Bad Karma.
I think Richie has got to be the winningest driver at Dover…….
Maybe we will come up to the reunion @ the Dairy this year.

P.S. I saw the picture on the site were the Chevy Nova flipped over after it hit the stone ledge, I can still see the dirt and dust flying, to this day, in slow motion, really, it rolled in slow motion after it hit. I think the story was it was the old man’s new car, and his kid brought his girl friend to the track to race it, I thought the father was there, but someone said he wasn’t, anyway he probably got the *** kicked out of him, one way or the other
……………Hey Bob! Reunion GOOD idea! lots of old farts there! and hit our Nostalgia Drags at Island,Sept 24-25…and thanks for correcting the wrong name I use about Clifford and Winspur (Hudsons),I kept using “Clifford Thorp” -wrong.
