Dover Nostalgia Drags 8th Year Breaks All Records
        By Dino Lawrence
Sept. 24-25 hosted at Lebanon Valley Dragway.
It was “Dover all over” as the JK Motorsports 8th annual Dover Drag Strip Nostalgia Drags, presented by Moroso , converged once again at Lebanon Valley Dragway. Such a passionate group, you’ll never find, that won’t let the memories die, of that little, legendary track in Wingdale, N.Y. It ran from 1961 to 1976, laying the foundation for an event that once again broke all attendance and car entry counts. Over 600 racers entered in the two days, to once again have their annual reunion & revival, celebrating of the glory days of northeast Drag Racing. Not only was the car count up, but the Sunday stands out packed a Division One race at Lebanon. Also up was the rocking’ Rod & Custom Show on Sunday with over 200 of the areas finest Street Rods & Custom Cars. The event features many other attractions, including The “Dover Originals Display” of cars that actually ran Dover, as well as “Drag Alley, a Nostalgia race car display with vintage racers from Lebanon Valley, So. Glens Falls Dragway, Connecticut Dragway, and even Vermont’s Milton Dragway. It even had a Sat. night “FlashBack Party” with the “HOTROD” band. Media photographers had a heyday, remarking, they never saw so many Gassers at one event. Cars came from as far as Florida & Michigan, to provide a ‘non-stop drum solo’ of Nostalgia racing. The headliner Funny cars capped the show with, what some have said, was the best run they saw in decades. It was go or blow when Chuck Exton staged his 427 Truck motor big block Chevy powered Mustang,” Wild & Crazy” to try to run down Robert Toth at the helm, of the “Time Bomb” Vega. Chuck .was packing 80% Nitro against the Alcohol fueled “Bomb Squad’. With just 2 thousands difference in reaction time, the “Bomb’ ran it out the back door at 213mph to edge Chuck by mere inches for the win. When the scoreboards lit up with identical E.T.s of 6.60, the crowd went nuts.200 mph altereds, including the mighty “N.Y. Earthshaker’ ,going back to back 207 clockings, along with the East Coast Gassers, Northeast Timing organization, members of the Gasser Racing Series, and Northeast Nostalgia Drag Racing Association ,all but added to sensory overload.
