Dino, Here’s a couple of old guys that I’m sure you knew well…………Ray Kronski (pronounced Ronski) a big contributor to the drag race and other race communities………Bats is still around, at least he was 6 months ago when I ran into him at a friends shop in Yorktown and still as nutty as ever…….Ray I’ve not heard from in 20 years or so…He did most of my cars and 75% of the Westchester cars……..Great gold leaf………..Don……….
Donnie,
I think it is Ray Skrownski. He lettered the Anglia, the first time(gold leaf) for me and Ronnie.Ronnie would know better. 😉 If you see Ray again, say hello for me. 🙂
Thanks,
John
Bats is on the Forum! Dosen’t say much…Hook up with him…Says he has photos.
John Kurztsman was MY mentor…Saw all the precise work he did on the Southern Ct. cars (He was from Stamford). Moroso Vettes, gassers…Think he did so many that I got to Know his “signature’ style. Rays Stuff was a giveaway to who did it too…All the Freds Cars. Then in the Danbury area there Was “Chip” Zellner. Did all the House of Speed cars. Drake got me going with my first Drag Car…His Comet …then a bunch after that. Freddy Murphy’s ‘Yellow Fever “,Stu Silvermans “Respect” and good ol “Henry the 8th”..those were my first. When I did the Shottgun Express..Thought I died and went to Southern California …A Real Dragster!
JOHN KURTZMAN DID THE LETTERING ON MY DRAGBIKE IN 1992 IN GOLD OVER THE CANDY APPLE RED METALFLAKE PAINT JOB. HIS YOUNGER PROTEGE FRANK “VESUVIUS” SERENA ALSO FROM NORWALK. BOTH OF THEM DID WORK ON MY BRAND NEW 1987 DODGE VAN PINSTRIPING AND LETTERING AND A FEW OF MY DRAGBIKES AFTER THAT . BOTH GREAT GUYS AND VERY REASONABLE PRICES .I REMEMBER KURTZMAN WAS ALSO DOING JIMMY COOPER’S DRAGBIKES FROM PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP IN NORWALK AND NOW THAT I THINK OF IT. HE DID DO ONE TIME VITO SABATO’S MODIFIED DRAGBIKE. BUT VITO MOSTLY LIKED ONLY A STRAIGHT BLACK PAINT JOB ON HIS RIDE’S. FASTLANE 😛 HERES A SHOT OF MY LAST BIKE FRANK “VESUVIUS” DID FOR ME AT MY SHOP LETTERING AND THE PINSTRIPING JOB BACK IN 2001 .
Kurtzman did the striping and made the headers on my car. Automotive Restoration which is a high end restoration shop here in Stratford still uses him to stripe the pre-war classics. He shows up at Fuzzy Munson’s annual Christmas party along with Don Scinto, Al Deangelis, and a bunch of old Dover guys.
Rich At M&M always used Louie Marasso in Poughkeepsie…Did the Gold Leaf in his Vette. Gold Leaf -lost Art ..I do it and so do a few “Sign-A Sours”,as we call ourselves..see the price of real gold lately?…Glad I stil have a ‘stash’ bought two years ago 😀
Started my day with a phone conversation from a dear friend…………..Ray Skronski………The Polish Sign Painter…..We had a great chat and at 81 years young he is doing very well..He said to say hi to all and beleive it or not he is still working…………Go Ray………………………………..Don……….
Don, better spell it as per : RAY SKOWRONSKI OR THE “POLISH PRINCE” WILL GIVE YOU A RETURN CALL !
Hope he took Pictures of the cars he did and Would be great to get him on here and POST THEM !
Dino, Great idea…… He has scrapbooks of pics…….I wiill work on that request……..Don
…………………………I’ll Call Kurtzman for same idea ! …dino-edit
That looks like the factory fuel injection on Al Barren’s roadster. Chevy came up with that in ’57 I think but it didn’t go over very well with the public. It was available in both Corvettes and Chevies. That’s an interesting choice of intake apparatus for a show piece like this one. You don’t see many of those.
Huh…?! 😯
You need a “lisence”… to do lettering…???
