On Sunday April 26 the long winter ended as we held our season opener at Island Dragway. Thirty nine racers, including six new members, attended on a sunny crisp day, that ended as a cloudy crisp day. It was a great day of racing for all. The race was sponsored by Accurate Auto Repair of Norwalk Ct.
In Comp eliminator, Greg Georges was the winner in his fast 67 Camaro with a 8.786 on a 8.75 dial. Current Comp champion John Giambertone in his 65 Cyclone was runner up with a …9.774 on a 9.75 dial.
In Nostalgia eliminator, Charles Speizio in his hard leaving 55 Chevy was the winner. Charles went five rounds and won with a 11.31 on a 11.21 dial. Current Nostalgia champion Roger Wright with his show quality 74 Cuda was runner up with a 10.948 on a 10.98 dial.
This race also marked the first NETO 10.00 Index race. This was an experimental race which potentially could become a limited series. The 10.00 index race was sponsored by Johnson and Powell racing. In this category the racers have two qualifying runs to determine a qualifying order. Closest to 10.00 is best. Eliminations are run heads up on a .500 pro tree. Seven racers ran this inaugural race. This was the qualifying order:

In the final, Jody Kenly in his beautiful 74 Challenger won with a 10.14 over Vinny Laurita Sr with a 10.32.
