By popular Demand ..and overdue…Here’s to Chickery & hampe. And their independant efforts… Looking for More photos of the cars…Silver & Blue Super Stocker showed up at 2008 Reunion ,and is being ‘restored’ to Stock ‘ . Lets get the earlier cars and history.Tony Drove the ‘Mr Ed” M & M car and, here’s what ‘bossguy’ posted back in Dec…
“I just got off the phone with Tony Chickerys cousin, Joe and he told me that Tony passed away about 3 years ago.”
Stormy likes! Great shot, never saw it before. Some people/cars were just fun to race, no matter who won.
Photos by Ed Hosier sent to me by Brian .
Dino: Thanks for the page. The Pharoah’s of Egypt belived that if your name is spoken after death you will live forever. Tony is one you guy’s that will.
Hempe ran indepently 1962 Ply 383 all white no sponce or stickers on it after the split. After they left Jocko’s is when they split happen luckly I remanded friends with both of them. Thanks, Rich
PS: M&M did supplied the wheels along with all the parts for Mr. Ed that was our deal. The wheels on the GTX also.
Not sure who Tony sold his Dart to but it ended up in CT. A guy from MI bought it – same paint minus the “Mr Ed” and it is still there (repainted). The guys who know the car will know this – the paint on one side was red and the other was blue. The “Mr Ed” on Tony’s Dart was from the first owner in OH. Then sold to a guy in KY then Tony.
Ask Dino about the two colors. He only saw the Red (?) side all the time from the tower. One rare Sunday he came down to the hot pits BS’n with us standing on the driver side and said “Oh you brought the Blue one today? I didn’t know you had two of these cars”! 😆 🙄 A guy from Pok by the name of Frank Youcom bought it. I heard it then went Mich? I had already left Pok when it was sold. We saw it in the Dragster one night, called, loaded my trailer and drove to Greenup, KY. the next day.”He said go to Columbus and take a left”. I think he paid $5,000. Who is the guy in Mi? Rich
PS: Sorry my mine is shot can’t remember Blu/Red side, got a 50/50 chance I’m right.
RICH (M & M),
You woke up late this morning.
OK MIster, Your on double secret probation.
Double bagel duty.
favorite Florida quote.
We have to go th the restaraunt before for 4:30.
The Early-Bird specials are over after 5:00. 😮
Buon giorno, mi amico
Slept in hun!! Thats what the Q-Tips say but I think they mean PM not AM. Rich
I got up first. I’ll make the donuts.
And will not forget about the “Munchkins”
I guess the chonological order of cars is;
The black and silver 67′ GTX (440) automatic car came from Centolanza’s first.
In 1967 they ran it in SS/EA.
In late 1968 or early 1969, Chickery & Hampe got it, and ran SS/FA. I think there were a couple of S/S Eliminator Runner-Ups with that car in 69′.
The photo with the white steel wheels is from 1969.
In 1970, the car had Cragars. On the “B” pillar there is lettering of SS/FA, but on the
passenger side window it is shoe-polished with SS/HA. I’m guessing that the 440 was
swapped with a 383/325HP that year. Hampe had the magic touch with the 383 engines.
Then, Tony got the Hemi Dart out of Kentucky, the former Ed Knesevitch “Mr Ed” out of
The Dart (4-speed originally) was in SS/A, then into Pro/Stock with the conventional
Hemi factory scoop. Somewhere along the line, a tunnel-ram came into play, maybe 72′ or 73′, as the car bounced from Pro/Stock to A/MP. Then back into S/S ???
Not sure when Frank Youcum took the keys to the Dart.
i have this car behind my shop in a trailer.
Found Hampe’s car how cool is that. Are you going to race it, sell what? Let us know we may be interested. 😮
