The rearend ratio has been picked due to cost. Both cars have a 9″ Ford housing so I can interchange the center sections. I have two center sections for the Mustang, a 3.70 and a 4.56. The one not in the Mustang is the 4.56, so that will be the one. A 4.10 or the 3.70 would be better for hp/weigh ratio but again I am using what we have.
Tom… in that avatar photo of the old one…the front end is Sky-High? was the motor out or did it run like that ? your new one will do some cool wheelies if its up that high.
Avatar picture is with the engine out, sitting on RT 8 in Shelton for sale. They were the last pictures taken of the old 55. With the engine in the car it didn’t drop down to much.
The new 55 will sit a lot lower due to the design of the chassis.
Ah So…I knew ..And I ain’t a mechanic 😆
Tom,I not only speak for myself but other ODF members (I think) that appreciate you keeping us updated with photos and info of the progress of your ’55’ Chevy (clone).Up ‘north’ here,is coming close to winter’s blahs, boredom, and cabin fever end,and it’s guys like you and Mikey that ‘spark’ our interest and kinda anxious for spring to come to hit the drags once again! Bless you guys, and keep it going!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀
Babycakes…..Thanks, it is interesting to me to see if anyone is even checking or viewing what we post. We are trying to get this project to the point where we can get it running or at least starting the engine in the car. We do want to bring it to the next race, may not be complete but we do plan to have to a point where we can race it. After it is running and back on all four wheels we will concentrate on more of the details. Details like plumbing, wiring, doors, fenders, radiator etc, etc, etc. And only 176 days left.
Here are two pictures to compare the ride height with the engine in the car and with the engine out of the car. Not a lot of difference with or without the engine.
The picture taken at Dover is the one Brian sent to me that was left at the last reunion.
Nice ‘neat’ job Tom,on your rear end assembly…..Keep it going….Pete ❗ 😀
Nice to see it back on all 4’s Tom.Once again.looking ‘GOOD’!!!
Tom, that’s AWESOME ❗ Watching you build the 55 and showing us your
step by step progress is the COOLEST thing since ROX built the SP VII ❗ ❗
Keep up the nice work ❗ 😛
Frank…
After chasing some parts, making some suspension adjustments, pulling the wheels on and off several times we roll the car outside and took some pictures. The back end was sitting up pretty high so I had Mary get in the trunk to simulate the fuel and batteries. It only dropped down 1″.
Back in the shop and lowered the car 3″ than quit for the day. Getting too old to be working so hard but it reminded me why we retired.
