WAY TO GO MR.B !!! … sorry we missed it … safe ride and hope we can hook up over the winter …
Stopped in northern VA for the night. Slowing our progress to NC due to the hurricane.
Just some ‘ole’ advice Tom….be careful, and be safe!!!! This ‘Matthew’ storm is packing a punch, for sure!!!….Pete.
We made it to Iron Horse NC. Time to get the motorcycle out, give the 55 a rest and ride the mountains around this area.
Rode the “Tail of the Dragon” in both directions Monday. That was pretty exciting, 318 curves in 11 miles. That was 636 curves in about 40 minutes.
Looks like our “Drag Racers Endless Summer” is getting close to ending, couple more days in the NC TN mountains and a train ride in GA before heading back home to FL. What an exciting summer it has been so far.
Hey Tom, Thanks for sharing your summer vacation with the Dover gang.
We all certainly enjoyed it for sure ❗ You guys have a safe trip home. 😀
Keep us posted on your next project…..We all know that you’ll have one. 😆
Frank… 😎
….Again the winner of our “Long Distance” award…Oh ….Home OK after the Storm ?
Dino…Yes the home is ok, thanks for asking. The kids in Lakeland were watching the place and they came up here to NC to ride with us. They said Lakeland was not heavily impacted by the hurricane, thank God.
The son-in-law, Denny, has been coming to this NC area for years and was our leader and guide this year. After the “Dragon” and the “Cherohala Skyway” it was hard to beat the riding in the mountains but the last day we rode the Blue Ridge Highway from the end, in Cherokee, to a couple of the highest elevations on the highway, over 6000′. Visiting some of the old towns in the mountains was also pretty neat.
Than it was off to GA and 2 hours of riding a train in the mountains from Blue Ridge GA to McCaysville GA and back. The last stop was the Mercier Orchards for everything made with apples including donuts. Will be home Saturday and start my diet from all the good food along the way, did I mention my son Ronny and son-in-law Tony are also excellent cooks and we spent about three weeks with them.
We did make it to FL Friday but will be back at home on Saturday to end this extremely fine “Old Drag Racers Endless Summer” (73 days of traveling)
Will post some pictures after getting home and to a program for reducing the sizes to be able to post them.
youneed a vacation from your vacation.
After seeing the cold temperatures you guys are having up north thought you would like a change. We went to the Plant City Christmas car show, it was 83 in the afternoon but cooled off to T shirt weather by evening. 😀 Some of us ODF’ers in Florida can appreciate the difference in weather since we have been through it before. Keep warm.
THANKS for sharing Tom !!! I can’t imagine spending Christmas ( me being a Yankee), in a tee shirt! lol. Meanwhile,to you and the family. a very Merry Christmas, and keep your sun tan lotion handy !!! Take care…. Mr.Pete.
Hi Tom… We are now in Valrico … Any drag races or car shows that you will be attending ??? … We would like to hook up with the Blakes…
Chuck and Sue
kman…just did the local Burger King tonight with the Mustang and next Friday evening will be the same. Had big car count tonight due to the nice weather. Not much happening with Christmas and New Years.
The 6th of Jan is downtown Lakeland, usually a good show since they have lots of other activities around the Mumm Park area where the show is located. This event we were asked to park on Main St with the 55, for some sort of photo shoot with 50’s cars as a backdrop.
Every 2nd Saturday of the month, New Smyrna Bch. has a car show on Canal St. ( 4:00 – 8:00). Great turnout, with some north east cars and, relocated residents. 😀
Merry Christmas
John
