Fact is…
after thirty two years of employment on the day side at the Miami Herald Publishing Company, they have switched me over to the infamous…”Graveyaed Shift”. I go to work now at 7:00 PM and work until presses shut down any time between 2:30 AM and 4:30 AM. I get home in about 15 minutes and always take a few minutes to get up to speed at DDS dot com before I turn in for that day.
Sux…
How’d ya like THAT…!
Gotcha, So it’s just me not being able to sleep……………..
DON the “K”,,,or should I say,,like Murray the “K”. 😆
Yes,,Quicksilver Messenger Service,,San Francisco based band. But hit the east coast circuit in the summer..liken them to Big Brother and the Holding Company..Made a few rounds in the smaller/mid-size clubs, outdoor park ‘Human Be-Ins”,,small festivals..good rendition of
‘Who Do You Love”..Played the ‘Dean House” in Mahopac (5 minutes from my home back in
68’/69′)..Believe it was for a rich kids wedding,,,I’m sure he’s still happily married 😆
Could have been 68’,,they played the Fillmore East in the early summer, and hit Westchester
County Center too…
The “Dean House” at the west-end of Lake Mahopac, right on the lake (Route 6N)..
Now called the “Point”,,,Billy Joel bought a house there,,also the B-52’s had a studio there for a short time. The ‘Dean House’, large high-class ‘hotel’ at one time,,,then it burnt to the ground,,a fire started,, accidentally-on-purpose 😮 ….see the movie ‘The Goodfellas’,,when the restaraunt caught on fire 😉
Paul,,,,,Please pass the match and lighter-fluid.. 😯
Murry the K ( Kaufman)…WINS am ’58-’65….”AH-BEY ! ” “Cuma Sowa Sewa” …the King of New York Rock Radio with his ‘Swingin Soiree’….Remember ‘Submarine Race Watchers?”: …told your girl “lets park by the lake or river and watch the Submarine races” 😆 ! Became the 5th Beatle …Had rock shows at the Brooklyn Fox theater. WINS went all news in ’65,so he hit FM and introduced Album cuts …sometimes played the whole side… Nobody had done that before. Moved to west coast and later died at 60.If you raced at Dover in the early 60’s, Murry and WINS were on your car Radio, cruisin at night. He was followed by (In popularity) “Cousin Brucie” (Bruce Morrow) on WABC and the really funny afternoon guy-Dan Ingram(Listened to him on the way home from school) Brucie had a show car (See 1969 NYC Show poster at heading in “Other Photos” for 1969 NYC Auto Show) and ran in ,publicity stunt match races at Island Dragway.
DINO the “L”…..A.K.A.; Dino the “Weirdo” on the FM dial 😆
Goes good with; Murray the “K”,,,Cousin Brucie,,,,Dandy Dan Ingram,,,Wolfman Jack,,
and weren’t some of the radio jocks called “the Good Guys”…maybe on WMCA..
Dan Ingram was probably the best of the bunch. And “NEW” where ‘Scotso’ Scott Muni got
caught up playing way too many Beatles songs.
The best radio guy,,, Bob Grant,,, no songs,,,just yelled at everybody,,talk show great!!
,,,Yes, right hear on the Dover dial, thats 1320 on your dial 😎 ,,this weekend, on Saturday Night,,November 27, 1965,at the famous “WILTON HIGH SCHOOL”, Thanksgiving Day Weekend,, the hot group from New York,’ The Young Rascals’, ,,,featuring their hit song; “I Ain’t Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore”. .$2.50 Advance,,,and $3.00 at the Door,,, See Dino the “L” at the front door for further events, and at the back door for other,,,,,
‘Groovy Treats”…
Yes, they did play their,,currently my home town,,,where my daughters go to school.
If they only knew the “Cool” bands back then..Instead of asking,,,Hey Dad,,,whats a
young rascal?? 😮
Paul,,,”Be sure to wear flowers in your hair”
then there was George Carlin on WINO wonderful wino…parodyed him a few times at Dover. Anybody remember Stage III in Danbury…lots of up coming groups played there in a ‘concert’ atmosphere…Berkshire Shopping Center I think…up Rt 7 …shouls have called this ‘Westchester-Fairfield’ Rockers .
The Hippie Dippie Weather man with all the weather for you MAN…………….
“Wow Man …Al Sleat Here ….your Hippie Dippy Weather Man …Lets look at the Weather on the weather map…Oh It ain’t here…well ,kind of imagine it imagine it in your mind…We got a canadian Low ( Not to be confused with a Mexican HIGH) “…… Did that Whole bit at Dover .Used the big window in the tower as weather map and marked it up with shoe polish. ” As I always Say ….Its Here Someplace ….Just Look “—–> http://www.doverdragstrip.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=470&p=2034&hilit=famous#p2034
I found some pictures. I forgot that I had these.
I knew him as Steven Tollarico, he was a student at Roosvelt Highschool in Yonkers when I knew him. This one’s from one of the RHS yearbooks:
And… here’s another one, this is about how he looked the first time I met him:
Steven and his buddies are still out there and doing it after all these years and it amazes me to see it.
FYI Patrick Carlin is on WDST almost every Sunday.
