The car is really looking good. Glad to see it rolling again. Looks like it’s coming along nicely. ……………….Mikey 😆
Vbob……Yes I do remember working on the cars in the winter. That’s where I got my start. A good friend of mine got me started when we both bought junkyard 283’s and rebuilt them in his cellar over the winter. Don Scinto did all the machine work back than. When the engines were finished we both put them in two different $100 55 Chevys that we got from the back line at a couple of dealerships in CT.
The one that was mine turned out to be the orange E/G’er. The one he finished, I bought from him and used it as my first tow vehicle.
“The good old days” but I like working in the Florida winters much better.
After adjusting the ride height on the back end last night I decided to get going on the front end today. I put the engine and transmission together and than put the assembly into the car. Now I can get a start on the headers, get the steering thru the firewall and get the placement for the master cylinder, brake and gas pedals.
Some of the smaller items seem to take a long time to complete. Trunk almost complete, all the openings closed with sheet metal, the battery box for two batteries complete. Still working on the gas tank hold down straps but almost done.
Got the bracket to mount the brake pedal and master cylinder, made and fitted to the chassis. Will need some help from a welder friend to weld it into place. Don’t like my welding for the brake stuff. The brake lines and line lock are all in the car just waiting to mount the master cylinder to finish the brake system.
Got to keep going there is only 150 days to the race.
Tom, you are really getting a lot accomplished in a relatively short period of time. You sure do some nice sheet metal work!! We need to talk. I would like a removable trans hump in my car, maybe you could do it. In your spare time,of course. Yes, I’ll pay!! Really looking good. ……….Mikey 😯 😆
Mikey,I second the motion,Tom does real nice work….and hey….YOU do too!!! 💡
WOW Tom ❗ This is like watching an “Overhauling” show on tv ❗ I can’t
believe how quickly you’re moving on this project ❗ Boy, does it look GREAT ❗
Can’t wait to see it at the Valley in August. You are going to have a flock of ODF
guys along with other racers all over your “55….Keep up the good work ❗ 😎
Frank…..
Frank…..One big difference, Overhauling dose a car in a week. And as of this morning I have had the car 93 days and have only 149 days to the race.
Did get the brake bracket spot welded and temporarily installed. Couple of minor adjustments, fluid and the brake system could be completed.
Just Curious Tom, is the guy you bought this 55 from following the awesome progress you’re making here?
bossguy……No, he hasn’t even returned my last call about getting another part he might have. He didn’t seem to interested after the sale. I do think he would be surprised to see it now but he just didn’t show any interest and we haven’t talked since December.
His loss your gain …for those of you that don’t remember …see the photo in the first post of this topic. Tom has come a long way!
