latest up-date
been in contact with Ron Abbott, send him pictures and was told
Yes it was his Dragmaster chassis, as is sits now is the way it was than
(less his motors of cause). Ron is also going to TRY and see MAYBE
the LONG headers might be in someones garage.
Ron also gave me permission to use the name on her. NOW THAT’S KOOL.
Send a photo package to Dode Martin, one of the partners
of Dragmaster company, he is in Calif now. He said he’ll be happy to comfirm the chassis also,
and is happy to see some pictures.
Going to have the car look like Ron had it when he First started to race it
will have a Hilborn fuel injection system on it. A lil fuzzy jumping right into
a blown motor. I located a complete system with a real early intake.
did some CSI on the number casted on the bottom of the manifold and it listed
as a unit made between late 50’s to 63’sh. should have it next week,
came of a running small block 2 yrs ago, was gone over before it was taken off that motor.
Will also be red in color. Need some lil parts to get. Even more FREAKY
the motor in her now is the same as then, a 327 small journal,
but with out the 283 crank Ron had in her. Even have the canister oil filter still on the motor.
Even found a “SHORTY” trailer locally for her, just have to extend the runners for the front spoke wheels
and she will sit on the trailer like it was made for her.
Bummer is can not do anything yet to her because of the surgery to the right shoulder
for the torn tendon, hopefully back to work by May-June’sh than is will be
a**holes & elbows into it. Also take her to Bobby LaRegina’s shop
to have the second hoop put back in along with some othere lil things.
’bout it for now, no visual changes looks like it did when I brought her home.
thanks for the support and concerns,
Bobby S.
Doug Tippetts was the second owner of that one and he has checked in here before. Tom Blake is in touch with Doug also.
yep,
that is the picture I’m using as a guide,
just looking for some ods & end to bring her
back to look the same, as close as possiable.
there is also a side view of her parked in the pits next to a pick-up truck
not much for detail but another to work with.
good to have some names to add to the list related to the dragster.
I love the head on shot someone took leaving the line with the wheels up
while injected also
Bobby
I can get Doug’s e-mail address if you want it.
Tom
2 pictures I got of the old girl in her younger days,,,,,
when injected than blown
Thanks Tom
when you get it please pm it to me
the more history I can get the better the display will look,
maybe he might have some pictures he can send to me
(WOW I scared myself sounded like DINO there for a few seconds 😆 :geek: )
Bobby….Our Photo disc For higher Quality Or ODF Galleries…Dick Donofrio Collection has plenty …plus others ..Ralph Rand Good ..The older collections will surprise you…Bill cullen for color Also maybe -disc only -Dino collection
Dino
the disc is where I looked for the pictures
that worked out great,
the 2 b/w’s I put on are photo copies
I got from Bob Long, did the best I could with my programs to help them out.
Maso love the mid track shot, loved that way of
getting the dragsters running,
I feel it made the crews and fans ALL ONE.
Now ya look at the starting line and wait for the sound,
maybe at one of the Dover races the track will let that happen?
sure the fans will love, I know I will..
Bobby S.
What is the status of the Modifier’s Dragster…? I don’t think that I am changing the subject here by bringing that one up. If, in the future we can have both cars running they could run together, just for old time sakes… eh…?! Your thoughts…???
Question: What is the story behind the five point roll cage… Why did the last owner remove the outer loop. Will you put that back on…???
Where is the longer Dragmaster “Helz-A-Poppin”…? Does Ron Abbott still have it…? That is the one that got beat by Garlits in the Cassidy & Winward car an Indy in ’63 for the class win in AA/D. It was a very close race.
MASO
in my up-date before, I mentioned that the chassis is going to Bobby LaRegina’s shop
to have the 2nd hoop but back in so the chassis will be as it was built.
Do not know why the hoop was cut out, when I was talking to Bob, the seller to me
he mentioned that it was that way when he bought it, he was told that the owner (s)
before him might have had trouble getting in & out with that hoop there???.
I did not ask Ron if he still has a dragster, story in the area but not sure is that he does,
if I remember I’ll ask him the next time I talk with him.
what 2 cars are you thinking about, mine & if Ron still has one,,
There were 4 Hellzapoppins…We know where two are .Consult the Hellzapoppin Thread.
