THANKS for sharing that ‘classic’ picture Frank, love seeing ‘gassers as you know! Ever try to figure where the time went so fast, and wish we were back there once again,at the ole Dover Drag Strip, having so much fun!!!….Pete. 😀
Pete, it’s amazing how fast the time blew by and how many
friends are already gone. We were so lucky to have Dover, Lebanon and CT Dragway
around. Those tracks kept a lot of us out of trouble 😮 You know back then,
we thought that those drag strips would be there forever. How naive ❗ 😆
Can’t help feeling bad for the younger generation that didn’t have a chance to
experience what we did. “BUT, the only thing constant in life is CHANGE” ❗ ❗ 😀
Frank… 😎
Wow Frank, that looks great ! I too have a piece of the track that I keep in
my bracket car so it’s with me on every pass out here in L.A.
Fortunately I haven’t had to throw it at anyone yet.
Bob Hoffman.
Hey 340swinger, that’s pretty cool ❗ Never thought of that piece
of pavement as a weapon ❗ 😆 I hope you never have to throw it
at anyone and have it forever. 😀 I guess by now, the last piece of the
Dover strip (the shut down area) is probably leveled and covered over ❓ R.I.P.
Be well 340swinger from L.A……
Frank… 😎
Frank, I treasure my little chunk of the track I got in 1988. It was in the fall of the year, and I decided to take a ride with a friend who also raced there with his ’69’ Mustang C.J. I enjoyed walking the property, even though the original track area was a lot lower then. I could swear you could hear what sounded like echo’s of open headers when the wind was blowing! I agree with you,any of the blacktop that remained in the shut down area, is all but gone by now! 🙁 Pete.
ta-da! New Event Tee design with new ‘technology’…. will be on a Tie-Dye shirt too! FYI…since Jan. old Ollie ( you know him as ‘papasmurph’
) has been full time with me ,here at the sign shop. Ollie worked here from 2006-2009 ..he ‘built the forum at that time..Then Wall street & the economy crashed …so we shut down Dino’s Custom Paintworks ,where he worked with Brad (long gone) Prepping the cars….and both helped with sign work. Since Jan. we’ve been swamped and don’t know how I’d get the Work out without him…. planning Dover Race and doing Gasoline Alley. As a super Geek,we’ve been using all new design formats & programs, with both of us collaborating on Signs, lettering and as you can see by the Tee Design …full color digital stuff. We also introduced http://www.dragstripsgone.com online store and an Ebay store ….designing all the products right here. He helped out at Gasoline Alley -Syracuse nationals this year and will be assisting me at the Dover Race. Showing Tee first here -Forum exclusive…Stand By for a Forum Blitz of all the latest Race news .
To put it mildly…..”THE GREATEST NOSTALGIA DRAG SHOW ON EARTH” What more can I say??? 😮 😀 Be there or be square!!!….Pete.
^^^^^^^ … And That Says It All !!!!!!!
I happened to go by the old ‘South Glens Falls Drag Way’ yesterday. The entry is now completely blocked by large pine and cedar trees you’d never even know it was there! It reminded me right away like ‘Dover’, all but a fond memory, very ‘SAD’!!! 😥 Pete.
Sunday at Big Al’s will be there but not with car I’m changing the rear and it is not back yet.
Pat
Sorry guys, I can’t make it, I got relatives from ‘Jersey’ visiting for the whole ‘holiday’ weekend. I’ll catch ya in a few weeks at the ‘Valley’ and in the meantime have a ‘HAPPY HOLIDAY’ with family and friends, and stay safe, till then!!! ……Pete.
Leaving at 9 for Big Al’s
Pat
I’m back and it’s sad there was about 15 cars. I got some pictures if I can load them.
