If we could get Vinny Lyons (Rye Ford 68 CJ) to chime in here. Vinny was explaining to me at Dover Fest the west coast factory Cj’s were consecutivly Vin numbered or something to that effect. I’don’t want to screw it up.

😀 😀 😀 😀 Hey Paul-Jack…I don’t believe the C/SA car was a factory effort…there were a hand-ful of regionalized sponsored CJ cars…one comes to mind was Bill Ireland’s…Northwest Ford Dealers car (Bill, one mighy fine racer in Pacific Northwest)…and there were others around the country for awhile…’ol Jack…Vinny could well be right…on the numbers…I didn’t have the time…or interest/foresight to get into #’s in 1968… (I did tell ya’…I ain’t the smartest guy ‘eh) 😆 😆 😆 )…the pattern at Carmel Ford…was at least weekly break-in (‘dem hot rods/parts…wuz like fecal matter to flies)…it was a constant…did catch just a couple “boyz”…some were dealt with…as the law prescribed…others…were…just dealt with 😆 😆 😆 …U…get the idea…Drake

                The Magnificent 8,
                1) Don Nicholson (SS/EA)
                2) Gas Ronda (SS/EA)
                3) Al Joniec (SS/E)
                4) Hubert Platt (C/SA) * Hubert Platt may have also driven an SS/E car also.
                5) Jerry Harvey (SS/E)
                6) Phil Bonner
                7) Bill Ireland
                8) Carl Holbrook
Hubert Platt drove a C/SA Cobra-Jet Mustang, sponsored by Tasca Ford.
Someone must have had a C/S 4-speed car, but who?
Paul,,,,,Drake, are you saying that when you caught someone entering the premises without permission, you gave them the old ‘head-in-the-vise’ routine,,,See the movie ‘Casino’ 😎

😀 😀 😀 Hey PAUL…Your “magnificent 8” is a pretty good list…not to slight many others around the country…who got on board with the Cobra Jet deal… and did well…we did have a resident “thumper”…who would counsel “varmits”…on the error…of their ways…when “captured” in the act of theft…at Carmel Ford…. 😆 😆 😆 Drake.. I think I remember ol’ Hu-Baby”Platt drove a stick car (SS/E)… vs Al Joniec in final @ Pomona…and turned on the red bulb…giving Al the win… 😀 😀 😀

                            The Drake,
YUP! Hubert Platt also drove a SS/E their, under the Paul Harvey Ford banner, along with
                            Jerry Harvey.
Mister Hubie red-lighted in the SS/E ‘Class Final, giving Al Joniec the win.
There are pictures out there, showing Hubert Platt about 2-car lengths in front of Al’s car at the line. He must have have left way too early 😮 He didn’t have to, he ran an 11.59, which was the best E.T. in SS/E up to that time their.
Just how did Ford manage to get those cars into S/S without 50 cars homolgated?
                            I thought the 68 1/2 Cobra-Jets didn’t come out until April 1, 1968. ?????
Did the Ford Race-Factory Team have special pull?
OH! ‘Thumper’ + ‘SuperStitous’ = Police Authority

                                😀 😀 😀 Hey Paul…the “thumper”…will have to remain nameless…although a lil’ “clue”…did own/run…bar…right by Camarco’s corner…(rte 6) in later years…some sorta’ bad things went down there…over the years ‘eh… 😆 😆 😆 the amazin’…part…he actually wasn’t much of a deterrent…the “boyz” kept hittin’ the joint pretty reguarly…in spite of the impending “counseling” when caught… 😆 😆..Drake…p.s. I’ve raced/driven ’bout every kind of drag race car…known to man… 😆 😆 😆 …never was too crazy ’bout stock-super stock…way too much politics… NHRA…just like the government…ea$ily influenced ‘eh…went on back then..it’s going on …right now…with the new CJ cars…and the new Chrysler cars…next it’ll be the new GM stuff…did run the Thunderbolt SS/C car with Willie Hormorete for a couple years…and a early Mustang SS/M car for a couple years after Willie died…as the funny car “bookings” were winding down…very early 80’s…hey Paul…just a note…like your “new” hours… wot… no more “posting” @ 3-4 am? 😆 😆 😆

                                    Drake,
                                    That wasn’t K—-‘S Pub?
                                    As for late-night postings,,,,
No I’m up early, a 16-year old daughter with boyfriend problems, and a
14-year old daughter who teases her about it.
                                    KIDS!!!!!!!!!!
T-Bolts, mucho bueno,,,kind of like Roberto Duran,, punch like a mule!
But did they come with an AM Radio 😆
Super/Stock class back then,,, much like Wall Street, ‘if your not on the inside,
                                    then your on the outside’.
Found an old article on the Cobra-Jets, Ford trying to slide the 428’s in with only
335HP. But the ‘incessant whining’ of the 68′ Z-28 Camaro owners got them
                                    re-classified to 360HP (SS/E for 68′), while the Camaro’s had SS/F.
‘Camarco’s,, remember that ‘hair-pin’ turn near their entrance, before the Highway
                                    Dept. re-shaped the bend…….WHOA!!

                                        DRAKE,
I understand on the Super/Stock thing.
                                        Have to admit, my all-time favorite class 1965 & 1966 A/FX.
Love those 427 SOHC #3200lb. Mustangs.
Is it true, $11,000 for one back in 1965?

                                            😀 😀 😀 Hey Paul..you are on target on the name/place of pub…”thumper” is deceased…not in a good way…another long un-solved case…by Carmel PD…’eh…glad to know your new hours…are at least…well intended 😆 😆…John Sachs could well give you a better idea on cost from Holman Moody of the ’65 AFX cars…Larsen Ford bought one for Bob Hamilton (a wedge 427 car…originally…later…SOHC 427…I seem to remember…could be wrong…”geezerville”… has…”struck”)…I thought it was around $10,000…a whole lotta’ money…in 1965 dollars… 😀 😀 😀 Drake… we never owned a legal A/FX car…bought traded some stuff with Al Joniec/Rice Holman…for his long-nose “Bat Car”/Hairy One…long removed from legal A/FX status…it was a full fledged early funny car…although a original Holman car…re-vamped by them to long-nose… tube axle,etc.

                                                Drake,
                                                AHH,,Yes,,,many late-nights at “K” Pub.
The trick, do not use your real name.
I always used aliases,, but my favorite “Dr. Miles Longrod’ 😆
Too bad NHRA screw-up the A/FX thing.
Should have been left for the Mustangs and Comet 427 cars ‘only’.
It was definitely a ‘Ford’ class.
Still today, the Bob Hamilton “Long Gone’ car, and Bill Lawton ‘Tasca Ford’ car hold up
with stylish looks. 10.60’s in 1965, would still be fine today.
                                                Paul,,,
