News Update…From NBC Connecticut:
A man who escaped from a prison work camp in Georgia 48 years ago was found Monday, 990 miles away in Sherman, where he has been living under an assumed name and running a boat repair business.
Robert E. Stackowitz escaped on Aug. 22, 1968 from the infirmary at the Carroll County Prison Work Camp in Carrolton, Georgia, where the then-23-year-old was serving a 17-year sentence for “robbery by force,” according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Stackowitz was known around Sherman as Bob Gordon and the U.S. Marshals fugitive team learned about the alias around five months ago, which led the marshals and Connecticut State Police to 70 Route 39 in Sherman, where Stackowitz was taken into custody without incident, authorities said.
State police said that when he opened the door for troopers and U.S. Marshals he said “I figured this day was coming.” Big Al and Lee knew him and so did Bob LaRegina as a Dover Racer who hung out a the old Speed Parts Center and later showed up At Big Al events.

In a way,ya kinda feel sorry for this guy; yeah,he was wrong what he did, however, since his escape, it seems he had cleaned up his act 100% and lead a ‘normal’ ( non-criminal) life style! Oh well….’the law is the law’ I guess?… 🙄
A Dover guy with a 572 powered 55 Chevy can’t be all bad.

Pat, George’s brother, used to come into the dealership, that I worked,to have services done on his car,and twice I remember,George was with him.It was hard to believe, but George was kinda ‘timid’ in a way, usually waiting and walking around outside our customer ‘waiting’ room. I suspect he was avoiding getting invaded by any fans who may have recognized him,and ‘bug’ him perhaps( ?). He sure was popular, back in the day,and some imaginary mind to say the least!!! 😥 😕 😮 😆 Pete.
Going to see these guys tonight in Kingston, this will make over 110 rock and roll shows I’ve seen in the past 44 years. https://youtu.be/kGMARF0pguU
