New Scam Emails Fake Online Order Confirmations To Shoppers

Walmart, Target, and Costco Among Major Retailers Affected
Shoppers’ email inboxes have just started being flooded with a timely and potentially dangerous scam. Cybercrooks are sending out authentic-looking order confirmation emails that appear to be from Walmart, Target, and Costco, among others, to lure unsuspecting shoppers to their fake websites, according to ConsumerWorld.org.
Upon clicking the link for more information about their supposed order, consumers are taken to a foreign website where a malware-infested .zip file is automatically downloaded to their computer.
“This is the perfect crime at the perfect time,” commented Consumer World founder Edgar Dworsky. “Shoppers are busy placing orders between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so they would naturally expect to find these confirmations in their inbox. And even if they didn’t place an order with the particular retailer, they may believe that a mistake may have taken place and want to see the details.”
The subject line of the suspect emails typically says “Thank you for buying from (retailer name).”
Consumers who click the link in these emails are taken to various foreign websites hosted at these domains: alchem-asia.com (Walmart email), test.vcalink.be (Target email), and bwanatembosafaricamp.com (Costco email).
Consumer World recommends that shoppers hover their mouse over any link in a purchase confirmation email and note the exact website they will be taken to before they actually click it. The website address should be displayed either in a bubble above the link or in the status line of the email program.
Here are sample purchase confirmation emails that are made to appear to be from Target and Costco, claiming that the customer’s order is ready for pickup:

More than two-dozen broadband companies, including AT&T, Comcast, Cox and Verizon, voiced concerns that the FCC might be too heavy-handed with increased regulatory power under these proposed rules. “As it begins its rule-making process, the Commission should reaffirm its commitment to the light-touch approach that has ensured America’s leadership throughout the Internet ecosystem, from networks to services, from applications to devices,” reads a letter signed by the companies.
Separately, some members of Congress — mostly Republicans — are working on a bill to protect open Internet, but prohibit the FCC from going overboard with certain regulatory powers.
Q: How did the vote go down?
A: The net neutrality proposal passed. As expected, the five-member commission voted 3 to 2 to approve it. Joining Wheeler in voting for his plan were Commissioners Mignon Clyburn and Jessica Rosenworcel. Commissioners Ajit Pai and Michael O’Rielly, the two Republicans on the commission, voted against it. The regulations will be published in the Federal Register in a few weeks. They become effective 30 days after publication.

Maso….Republican Commissioner Ajit Pai, who delivered some of the most scathing criticism of the plan Thursday, warned the policy represents a “monumental shift” to “government control of the Internet.”
Further, he accused the FCC of bending to the will of Obama, who last fall came out in favor of such a sweeping regulatory plan.
Pai said the FCC was reversing course from past positions for one reason: “President Obama told us to do so.”
He warned of a litany of negative consequences, intended or not, from the net neutrality plan. He said it allows rate regulation — and, ultimately, rates will go up and broadband service will slow.
GIVE IT A REST

Ummm…
Why did you address this to me…?
Obama wants a government controlled society… He’s a Marxist and doesn’t respect the private sector.

Went to Bradenton Motor sports park on Monday. Don Garlits was going for a 200 m.p.h. record run in his electric dragster. Nice day got a chance to talk to him only about 25 spectators. Also 15 pro mods testing.
